Baobhan Sith

Basic Information

Anatomy

Baobhan Sith are slender, bipedal humanoids with tall, slender frames. Their general morphology is similar to the Eladan or Bediz, but their long legs end in delicate cervine hooves.   Casual observers often equate the Baobhan Sith with the Glaistig because of their hooves, but the two peoples actually have several marked anatomical differences with their forest-dwelling cousins. Firstly, while the Glaistig's hooves and legs are covered in short fur, the skin of the Baobahn Sith's legs are almost impossibly smooth. Baobhan Sith lack tails and antlers, and their ears, tapered to oblong points, are quite different from the fur covered cervine ears of the Glaistig. Baobhan Sith ears are smaller than most Sidhe, only slightly longer than those of the Bediz. Baobhan Sith possess small, hollow fangs, capable of siphoning blood.

Genetics and Reproduction

When one or more of their number fall, Baobhan Sith will seek out a replacement from among their victims. They will often target their victim over the course of several nights, each member of the pack dancing and feeding on the victim in turn, before enticing the victim to join in their entrancing dance. The victim will be spirited away to the pockets of Faewylde that the Baobhan Sith reside, eventually emerging in Bedouar as a member of the pack. Victims appear aloof and distant to those they knew before, but are capable of elaborate deceptions and mimicry when pressed. Their loyalty lies with their pack, however, bound by an ironclad ere-hud.

Ecology and Habitats

The Baobhan Sith are creatures of Deep Winter, residing in pockets of Faewylde maintained by the foyson they acquire. Baobhan Sith despise Bedouar, and will go to great lengths to isolate themselves from it. They emerge only to hunt, preferring the liminal wilderness of moors, mountain passes and the edges of forests, far from civilization of either Fae or Bediz design. Baobhan Sith will venture into Sidhe settlements, but never those of the Bediz, Fomorian and only very rarely Korrigan.   Within their dimensional pockets, Baobhan Sith reside in caves, varying by pack between lavishly maintained and appointed dwellings to simple utilitarian shelters from the harsh winds and snows.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Baobhan Sith are pack hunters, operating in groups of four, to target individuals or small groups. They appear when victim expresses lonliness or a desire for company, seemingly manifesting out of pockets of the Faewylde and making their presence known. This can be as direct as waltzing into a camp circle or roadside building, or appearing as travelers or bathers nearby and attracting their prey with sound. They typically present themselves as Bediz or a different Faerie people.   Baobhan Sith are hematophages, possessing an organ that will convert lifeblood into pure foyson, that they consume for sustenance and to maintain unstable pocket dimensions deep in the Faewylde.   Baobhan Sith make a point to appear friendly and sociable, often joining their victims in song and dance. They will often engage one of their number as a musician, while the others find their meals. The dance of the Baobhan Sith has an entrancing effect, similar to that of a cobra. Baobhan Sith require the blood pumping to siphon it with their hollow fangs, and so they work up the adrenaline and pulse of their victims with physical activity and erotic titillation. Having driven, up their victim's pulse, they feed. As the music reaches a crescendo, they cut the throats of their victims and drink from their blood. The victims will often continue to dance as they bleed out, compelled by the Baobhan Sith.   Once the victim has been slit and drunk, the Baobahn Sith descend into a feeding frenzy, tearing open their victims to gorge on their internal organs. Hearts, kidneys and livers are especially prized by the creatures.

Behaviour

The Baobhan Sith are predators, hunting and feeding on victims being their primary motivation. Unlike many of their peers, who have adapted to living in Alvez, the Baobhan Sith have not, despising the mundane world of Bedouar and working to maintain magically intensive enclaves deep in the Faewylde. To this end, they have adapted to feed on massive quantities of Foyson, draining it directly from living creatures.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Baobhan Sith live and hunt in packs of four. They divide labour and reward equally among their numbers, operating as true equals in these units.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

The Baobhan Sith are creatures of Deepest Winter, and prefer to remain, whenever possible, in the North. They are largely found in the Fortunate Isles, but many have made their home in the North of Kornôgel, establishing themselves in the Duchy of La Manche, the Kingdom of Gallia and the dark Kingdoms of Arle.   In exceptionally rare cases, single packs, searching for more fruitful hunting grounds, wander down to the County of Tolosa and the Grand-Duchy of Akitainia. Few have willingly crossed the Mor Kreizdouar, which serves as the geographic limit of their Southward expansion.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Baobahn Sith possess keen senses of sight and smell, which they use to seek out potential prey. While on the level of other Sidhe, the sensory capabilities of the Baobhan Sith are not exceptional.

Civilization and Culture

Common Dress Code

Baobhan Sith typically wear long, flowing green dresses to conceal their hooves, the silken fabric giving them the illussion of floating.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

The Baobhan Sith call themselves Deontóirí mianta, or Wishgranters.

Common Taboos

Like many Sidhe, Baobhan Sith have a strong aversion to iron, reaching irrational levels even by the standards of other Sidhe Tuath.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

The Unseelie Court

Baobhan Sith are nominal members of the Unseelie Court, residing in Deep Winter. Despite their pack-like hunting habits, Baobhan Sith are considered solitary fae by their kith and kin. They answer The Morrigan's call at the Fire Festivals of Kalan-Goañv and Kala-Hañv, and can be seen at the Winter's Balls of Kastell Distrein, but they rarely engage with their peers on daily matters.   The Baobhan Sith are cordially welcomed by the other Sidhe, but are typically kept at arm's length, an arrangement both sides favour. They regularly pay tribute to their social betters, but rarely engage further. Solitary and packs of Wishgranters can be found in some Sidhe communities in the Fortunate Isles. On the continent, they pay little heed to Fae communities and operate as truely solitary, outside of polite society.

The Bediz

While the Baobhan Sith are hardly overtly sociable with other Sidhe, they see the Bediz are primarily a source of food. Even those who interact outside of the hunt will look upon their guests with a look of hunger.

Other Creatures

Baobhan Sith have a fear and hatred of horses, and will avoid them where possible, acting nervous and skittish when confronted with a horse. While in a blood frenzy, this aversion becomes more apparent, and they will flee from equines. Nightmares, for their part, will often trample a frenzied Baobhan Sith, killing her with hooves.   Ki Du possess a similar instinct to attack the creatures.
