Briovère

Defences

The inner city of Briovère is surrounded by thick walls of schist, with a second fortified courtyard enclosing the Northern Gate, the Porte Dollee. The three gates, located to the North, East (Newtown), and South (Porte au Lait), are each gaurded by two round turrets, with further fortifications located at Porte Dollee. Large towers are located at the Northeast and Southwest corners of the walls. The primary garrison is located near Porte Dollee.

Industry & Trade

Briovère is located on the crossroads between Caen, Carusburg and Roazhon, which, combined to the vast agricultural bocage surrounding it, allows it to host large agricultural markets. This trade is buoyed by a lucrative trade arrangement with the Golden Sea and a large Kriores population, allowing the city to establish itself as a home to skilled goldsmiths.   Briovère has been entitled the ability to mint coins in the Duchy.

History

Following the collapse of the Empire of Tarif, the Contentin Peninsula was largely abandoned by Imperial Remnants and Neustrian interests, a frequent target of raiders along the coast and from Letha. It was sacked by King Salaun of Letha in 765 SI, but was often ignored by the Lethaned, and when the Kingdom fell into civil war, the region was left open to the same Fomorrian forces that would sack Naoned.   As Hastings Fireforged took control of the Armorican Peninsula, the Contentin fell to his rivals. The city of Briovère refused to surrender, hiding behind its high walls for some time. A magical onslaught followed, leading to the massacre of the inhabitants, leaving the city deserted until around 923, when a trade route between the Normans and the Golden Sea brought wealth to the region, allowing the reconstruction of Briovère and Coutances under a count-bishop, who installed river locks and mills along the Vire.   Ecclesiastic rule was short lived, as Fomorian Normans and Anjevin meddling ousted the bishop

Geography

Briovère is located on the Contentin Peninsula, South of Carusburg and North of Roazhon, a largely agricultural center located within a confluence of several small rivers in the River Vire, that make it naturally defensible. The surrounding landscape is dominated by Bocage   The city experiences frequent, but light rainfall, with near-daily drizzle common throughout early Winterrule.
