County of Avranches

History

Avranches was first settled during the time of the Empire of Tarif around the city of Ingena, but quickly fell into chaos as the region became a prime target for Sidhe and Fomorian raids, before falling into a pattern of conquest and reconquest by Lethan and Norman claimants. Avranches finally lost its independence when it was annexed by High-King Alain I of Breizh. Following the Fomorian Interregnum (811 - 841), the territory was ceded to the Normans.

Demography and Population

The Archimago of Menez-Mikael and their top Ailhedenner often hold property, either in the form of estates or apartments, in this territory, when they are not living on the island itself.

Territories

Avranches is located in the Southwestern corner of Normandi, bordering Letha, located on the Contentin Peninsula. The majority of its Western border is dominated by the Pleg-Mor Menez-Mikael, while the North is taken up by the Viscounty of Coutances. A small border on the Northeast corner separates Avranches from the County of Bayeux. To the East is the County of Mortain. Avranches Southern neighbor is the Lethan County of Roazhon and to the Southwest, the Viscounty of Dinan.   The most notable area under the nominal control of Avranches is the Pleg-Mor Menez-Mikael, a tidal salt flat on which the Ailhedenneg of Menez-Mikael sits.

Trade & Transport

Avranches is the primary shuttle-point for Menez-Mikael, a small fleet of Sand-Skiffs serving the isle during low tide.
