Personal history
Exactly when Harald the Grey Olafsson arrived on Fjallkonan is lost to history, but his arrival on the black shores of the icy realm and subsequent ascension to its throne is a frequent subject of epics and bardic tales. What can be pieced together is that Olafsson was a Viking Chieftain from the Lost Peninsula and that he was made King upon marrying Witch Queen Malgven. A fierce warrior, Harald led raids against the shores and rivers of Albia and Kornôgel, but was greivously wounded with a poisoned blade, gradually growing sickly, wizened and mad. Centuries passed by and the youth faded from the King, giving him his ancient, but undying appearance.
Sickly, old and weak, Fjallkonan suffered under his later rule until a band of Armorican raiders, lead by the eventual King Gradlon Mwar of Ys besieged the Island, only breaking on the obsidian fortress of Gullfoss, the throne itself. Impressed, Malgven approached the stranded Gradlon, his fleet having abandoned him, and conspired to kill the decrepit King.
That might, Malgven arranged for Harald to drink Dreamwine, a powerful Sidhe narcotic, placing him in a drunken, blissful sleep. Gradlon was led into the bed chamber via a secret passage and concealed by magic, slipping past the guards and wards undetected. Once there, Gradlon stabbed and killed the old king, ending his reign.
Social
Contacts & Relations
The assassination of the King by Malgven and Gradlon did. It sit well with the remaining members of Harald's original clan from the Lost Peninsula, who felt the Queen had stripped the King of his right to die in battle. The clan rebelled, but was shattered by the Witch-Trinities and forced to flee to the Lost Peninsula and Tevenn Du. This group, known as Greybeards continue to wield some influence in the anti-Malgven factions of Fjallkonan's þing, raiding the Western Realms.
