Les Abers/Ar Mor Judenn

Geography

The Ar Mor Judenn (Coast of Legends), is the that wraps along the Northwest corner of The Armorican Peninsula, marking the transition between the Mor Bras (The Great Sea) and the Mor Breizh (The Painted Sea), a narrow channel that divides the Continent of Kornôgel and the Island of Albia.

Chenal de Four

The Southern terminus of the Coast of Legends begins at the Beg-Korzenn, the Westernmost point of the mainland Peninsula. The point at Beg-Korzenn is dominated by the ruins of a lighthouse, monestary, and small village, all left abandoned following the raids of Viking Chieftain Hastings Fireforged in 770 SI. From the point stretches a line of rocky islands to the Northwest to the Island of Eusa. It is generally agreed that this island chain is the official demarkation between the waters of the Mor Bras and the Mor Breizh. Narrow channels separate these islands, collectively known as the Chenal de Four. To the South of the line is the An Hirwazh (Iroise Sea), the waterbody that includes both the Rade de Brest and Douarnenez Bay. The Chenal de Four is a necessary, but often dangerous, passage between the markets of the South and the North.   After Beg-Korzenn is Whitesand Beach, a long stretch of low, sandy coastline covered in windswept dunes, terminating in the Kermorvan Peninsula, an ancient landmass that supports numerous Standing Stones and tidal islands. Kermorvan was once a population center for Korrigan Peoples before the time of the Kingdom of Great Kernev, and continues to be to this day.   The Aber Conq is smaller than the major ria that give the coastline its nickname of Les Abers, flooded river valleys that open to the sea. Here, the terrain rises, becoming rocky cliffs of pink granite.

L'Aber-Idult

This stretch of coastline is dominated by rocky headlands and cliffs, broken up by thin stretches of sandy beaches, all strewn with sea-rounded boulders. The smallest of the major Abers, the Aber-Ildut, marks a major physical divide between the North and South of Aginense. North of its mouth, is the i]Keleier Porsal/Les Roches de Porsal, a rocky region pocked with small bays and harbors. Here, the landscape turns Eastward.

Les Abers

After a stretch of sand-dunes and Coastal rivers that flow into the Mor Breizh from the Plateau de Leon, one reaches the two most prominent Abers: The Aber Glaz and the Aber Wrac'h.   The Aber Glaz is named after glaz, a uniquely Lethan colour describing the shifting blues, greens and greys of the sea, the sky and the coastline. The Glaz begins at the Dunes of Corn Ar Gazel, a stretch of sandy dunes and blue thistle that gently opens into the ria, a quiet and sheltered area bordering rolling, farm-covered hills.   The Aber Wrac'h, or Aber of the Hag, is the larger of the two, named for one of the epithets of Mamm-Goz, the Earth Mother of Lethan folk religion. It is marked by high granite cliffs and narrow channels off of the wide waterway. It is entered via a wide, twisting path between the cliffs, remnants of the old sea wall of Kernev which was destroyed in Cadfan's Tempest. The entryway is completely hidden from the sea, making it an ideal shelter against pirates and Ducal authorities alike. The high cliffs and remains of the old sea walls protect the waterbody from the storms that rage through the channel. Streams from as far inland as the Langazel Moors near Landern flow into the Abers. The bay at the mouth of the Aber is known as Angel's Bay.   In the center of the two ria sits the Landeda Peninsula, a high plateau overlooking the flooded valleys. All that remains abovewater of the city of Tolente sits on the rocky peninsula. Dozens of small islands little the mouth of the abers in the Mor Breizh, the tops of the hills that were taken by the sea.   Beyond Les Abers is a collection of smaller rivers and boulder-strewn beaches, leading from the Lordship of Aginense to the wild Bro Bagan. The Curnic Marshlands are found in this section of coastline and, lying within the Bay of Goulven, the Keremma Dunes, home of the famous battle between Dreger and a fleet of Sidhe raiders can be found. Here, the wild Coast of Legends becomes the Golden Belt, some of the most fertile and temperate agricultural ](organization:72142565-3dfa-49d5-9a29-b6fbe02f5623) lands in Letha.

Natural Resources

The Aber Idult is home to pink granite quarries, as well as a large collection of at sea Seaweed harvesters, who ply the waves searching for Tan-Mor.   The Aber Glaz is home to the Valley of the Mills, a large collection of watermills grinds grains for processing.   The Landes of Langazel, located inland, are a major source of peat, taken from the bogs in the highlands.

History

The Kingdom of Leon

The Coast of Legends was sparsely populated by Bediz prior to the campaigns of Conan Meriadoc and his son, Gadeon, King of Dumnonia, largely consisting of isolated settlements of subsistence farmers and migrant fishermen. This changed when Even Mwar, eventually the first king of Leon, landed in the region. At the time Even was King of Lyonesse, a petty kingdom along the Southern Coast of Albia. Pressured by the Courts of Summer and Winter from the North, and coastal pirates to the South, he made the choice to evacuate his people Southwards to the relative safety of Gadeon's court in Dumnonia. Instead, the fleet was captured by slavers on the ar mor Breizh, and taken to a remote location along the Dumnonian coast. Even, not willing to see his people sold as chattel, led a rebellion, seizing a number of slave ships and fleeing Westward. The rest of the Slavers rallied and gave chase. When all hope seemed lost, the rocks split apart to give Even's fleet passage into a natural anchorage, sealing behind them.   Saved by the "miracle" (later discovered to be a prototype seawall gate like those used in the construction of Ker-Ys Ker-Ys to the South), the ships of Even's fleet sailed into Angel's Bay without concern of attack from the sea. These ships were converted into a shelter that would become the first structures in the city of Tolente Despite their initial success, Even knew that they were not strong enough to remain on their own. Leon submitted themselves to Kernev, swearing allegiance to Ker-Ys. The city of Tolente was constructed on the Northern Coast, an impressive port with sturdy ramparts and, like much of Kernev, complex networks of dams and dikes to allow for great control over the harbor.   Leon prospered under Gradlon's rule, its territory stretching from Kermaria to the Kastellin Basin and the island of Eusa. Tolente grew into a magnificent port, even serving as the seat of both Leon and Dumnonia for a time. The town of Landern on the Rade de Brest was founded during this time.

The Biskonti of Leon

Tolente and Lyonesse were both destroyed during the Fall of Ys in 249 SI, with the former submerged in the two flooded river valleys. Leon's power crumbled as it lost both its capital and its island holdings. Throughout the years, the region would become a vassal of Kernev , Dreger , and even the Southern Church directly, with brief periods of independence, never remaining in one state for long.   It was stripped of its County status, with the sovereigns becoming Biskonts. Despite this humiliation, Leon again gained autonomy as is today considered one of the major divisions of the Duchy, The region, then sworn to the House of Kernev, was the scene of the violent conquest of Conomor the Cursed against Budig II, High King of the Lethaned, with Les Abers being used both by Conomor's Sea Dogs as well as Princet Muldumarec Artegall's allies at various points. The Battle of Angel's Bay was the largest naval engagement of the war in the Mor Breizh, where the Sea Dogs were destroyed following the Battle of Relec.   In 429 SI, the region was the site of the Battle of Keremma Dunes (V), when supporters of the Faith repelled a Sidhe Invasion from the Fortunate Isles and destroyed the remnants of the Druid's political power.   The Western Coast was ravaged by Hastings Fireforged and other Vikings throughout the 8th and 9th centuries, during which time the Abers provided protection from the raiders.
