Heazim (Heh)(Zim)
Heazim is the capitol of the kingdom of Saball. It stands out as a grand star of solid stone standing against the Endless Plains of the East of Gelrick, with outer walls as tall as a full-blooded giant, and a standing army that could hold its own against the dragons themselves. It has stood as a pillar of humanity since before The Dark Age of Men, and when it was partially destroyed by the dragons, great expenses were paid to repair the stonework by magic, and then those walls were reinforced with enchantments. In short, Heazim fell once to destruction, but it's unlikely to ever do so again.
It has stood as a pillar of civilization, but all of that began to change with the reign of King Mukhtar Batem, who began his life a foreigner to Heazim and was only appointed as king of Saball by Emperor Galvren Nicholan III, who saw the nobleman's proficiency for strategy and combat, but this proficiency with strategy came from a healthy sense of paranoia. In the sundering, which happened shortly after Emperor Nicholan's death, Saball stood against the majority of kingdoms, urging the rest to remain as an empire, united. The kingdoms of Prennik and Gellek were among the kingdoms who vied for independence from the rest of Gelrick, and so layed siege to Heazim. The siege lasted three months, and still Heazim stood against the combined might of these two kingdoms, even sending half of its army to the West to support the kingdoms of Fesden and Helteth before the siege began. The siege ended when, despite the best efforts of the three kingdoms, the four had split away, and with the three kingdoms being separated by land controlled by the four, all seven kingdoms of the once great Fesden Empire were sundered.
Some time before The Sundering, however, King Batem had heard from his spies that the nations of Kapukan and Senendial were each rallying their troops in such a way that they could spring an invasion against The Fesden Empire, and with Emperor Nicholan III being gravely ill, he went off into the woods where he had heard rumor of one of the Ancient Ones being located; a dealer of fate and secrets. In visiting that place, he traded away worship of The Defender in his land, in exchange for what he believed was the guaranteed safety of Gelrick. His confidence in his deal began to fade, however, when his wife died the next year. Every year thereafter, another of his family would die, with his eldest son dying on the Western Front of The Sundering, and his daughter being murdered in the streets the following year. King Batem, having fallen ill, sent out for adventurers to come, that he might assign them the task of making a different bargain with The Ancient One, and actually saving Gelrick, so he set in place different trials that would test the qualities of the adventurers to hopefully outsmart The Ancient One, and if necessary, sacrifice themselves for the good of Gelrick. His searching was finished a month later when the group by the name of The Conduit of Chaos arrived and passed all of his tasks. He then told them where to find the Ancient One, and asked them to deal with her for the safety of Gelrick. They did so, and King Batem seemed to make a recovery just in time for the Harbinger's Festival, so King Batem decided to then throw a parade for The Conduit of Chaos the day the festival ended. It was during this festival that a tiefling man by the name of Abdul Shehadeh hijacked the parade and slew King Batem, proclaiming himself the new king.
The city then descended into chaos, and The Conduit of Chaos was somehow able to escape the madness. The following days would see this great city nearly fall. Some element had caused great wolves from the forests northward to enter the city and walk the streets, devouring any they came across, and a sickness of madness seemed to spread through the city, leaving those infected without their mind, only caring for food and drink, even if that food and drink was the flesh and blood of men.
The following days would see a savior in the form of Abdul Shehadeh, who rose up with his men and slew the wolves that infested the streets, but their hope was short lived, as Abdul proved to be a mad king. He rose all tieflings up to be nobility along with him, and together they all formed a brutal authoritarian regime. A strict curfew was enacted, as well as a mandated habitation act. Shortly thereafter, a long list of horrid laws came forth, forcing the citizens to comply or die, and the Abdul's forces then formed a brutal inquisition, where they would offer extra rations for a week to any who sold out those still loyal to King Batem. What followed was a long period of both loyalists as well as false scapegoats being publicly executed, with mandatory attendance for each execution. In the harsh environment of this tyranny, a rebellion formed, and King Batem's head guard, Mansar Azam lead them.Demographics
