On a night when no moon shown in the sky entire families were slaughtered.

When the sky dropped into pure blackness, those who were born with red eyes lost all sense of their humanity. The Cursed Children grew wild and feral and fell upon those who loved and cared for them. Over three thousand lives were lost in a single night. Within the following days most of the cursed children were killed. Most of those who were left alive, primarily the very young were brought before King Theo Riverwood, with only a few escaping to hide in the world.   King Theo made a deal with Lord Edgard Underborne where the children could be hidden away so they would not be slaughtered, and the general populous would feel safe. To help hide them, Theo made the Moonless night a forbidden subject within the country of Tera'tun. As such, cursed children are often hated and thought of as lesser beings by older generations, but it is never said why. They are demons and monsters. That's just how things are.
