Culvert Cachet

Once designed as a refuge for people seeking escape from war, a small settlement built into the remnant of a primitive sewer system of a sister city of Mashangist slowly began to grow. During wartime, the influx of residents, seeking to carve out space for themselves, slowly began to expand the underground structure. Mountebank, the founder and elected leader of the culvert, lead many excursions above ground to ensure the safety of the settlement and ensure that throughout the war it remained undisturbed. As the war came to a close when Mashangist fell, the allure of security enticed many to stay. With now permanent residents, a greater structure began to form. With enormouse passageways far beneath the sky, the Culvert Cachet gained notoriety by allowing certain levels of anonymity for those that entered in.   The Culvert Cachet has grown to be an expansive labyrinthine amustment complex boasting adventurous attractions while blending natural elements of the underground with engineered marvels. Central to the Culvert Cachet is the violuminscent centerpiece, the Lanternbossom Tree. This gargantuan tree is one of the only pieces of the Culvert Cachet that reaches the surface. Blossoms from teh tree act as fairy llights in sufficient number ot completely illuminate the central complex of the Culvert Cachet. As such, dormitories, hotels, and hostels were constructed around this area. While specifically for those indulging in the attractions at the Culvert Cachet, these rooms remain highly sought after and difficult to procure.

Demographics

The Culvert Cachet represents one of the greatest refuges for the world. For those aware of the excitement and opportunity it provides, the variety of occupants are diverse in wealth, species, and ethnicity. While the Culvert Cachet has ceased expanding for some years, this diversity of diminished somewhat due to staggering costs of entry. Notably, those desperate for entry typically are employed in the vast service positions required to maintain proper order.

Government

While the Culvert Cachet remains within the established borders of Mashangist and therefore remains under the watchful eye of the Judge of Mashangist and the House of Lords, the Culvert Cachet has sufficient liberty to act independently. Governed by Mountebank, House Drest of the House of the Lords provides the oversight sufficient to ensure that the Culvert Cachet fulfills its purpose for Mashangist.

Infrastructure

The structure of the Culvert Cachet is produced mainly of hewn stone with metal supporting elements. There are utility features, common to much of the Mashangisti territories, that includes plumbing, electrical lights, and housing. The main means of travel throughout the Culvert Cachet are gondolas that pull visitors throughout the waterways. Adjacent to these waterways are walking paths in the event that the gondolas cease to work.

Districts

The main district within the Culvert Cachet is the central housing district. The hooplike district centralized around the Lanternblossom tree is several stories tall with pathways which descend toward the base of the tree. The additional districts include Aquanet Racing, Coliseum, Puzzle Walk, and the theater district.   Aquanet Racing: The Aquanet racing became popular when residents were able to decouple the gondolas from the pulley system and move quickly throughout the waterways. Annoyance bred into opportunity as the Culvert Cachet decided to utilize a deep running corridor. The corridor, modified to accommodate the methods of Aquanet Racing, was one of the last expansions of the Culvert Cachet and thus is one of the most modern. It remains one of the most popular attractions of the Culvert Cachet.   The Coliseum on the otherhand is one of the oldest structural districts of the Culvert Cachet. As the main defensive passage of the Culvert Cachet, the Coliseum was designed to enable sufficient defense by a number of occupants. A refuge of last resort, the Coliseum boasts fortified walls that have been changed to accommodate viewing platforms. The floor itself has been modified for regular, structured use as combatants are positioned on one of several positions, depending on the nature of the fight: theatrical or competition.   The Puzzle Walk is one of the novelties added to Culvert Cachet early on as a district that can change its form daily. The extensive used of concealed panels, pulleys, chains, and numerous servants to accommodate the changes, allows for exciting daily changes that make the Puzzle Walk one of the most exciting activities for visitors without much exertion. Couples and families are frequently found delightfully lost within the Puzzle Walk.   The theater district, as distinct from the Coliseum where theaterical reenactments are performed, is the only district of the Culvert Cachet that occurs using natural light. The theater district is positioned nearest to the top of the Culvert Cachet, making it in one of the oldest channels of the culvert. What once was the only room within the culvert, where Mountebank and his family once resided when the war first began, now has become a large amphitheater were performances are made by visitors throughout the world. The variety of shows continues to expand as it is one of the means by which visitors may find entry into the Culvert Cachet and avoid the extreme costs of entry.
