Dwarves

At the dawn of the world, the sovereigns Sovereigns rose from the chaos. To help them shape the world, they made four tribes of assistants: the Genies, embodiments of their Will and Vision. The Elementals, the raw force and substance they would use to shape reality. The Giants, to dredge the seas, carve the valleys, raise the mountains and spin the clouds.
And finally, to make things of beauty, to refine the details of the world, they made four kindred of dwarves. Each element gave rise to dwarves, each tasked with shaping something wonderful that would last for all time.   When the Dawn gave way to the First Day, the Ancestor Dwarves who’d shaped the world found themselves in the Mortal World. Stone, coral, ice and brass gave way to flesh, and the mortal dwarves spread throughout the land.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Dwarves are typically shorter than humans, with earth dwarves ranking the shortest and air dwarves the tallest, reaching upwards of five feet tall. Most are broad and compact with tough bones. Skin and hair color run the gamut--any coloration can be found among any of the dwarven people, though truly unusual specimens tend to follow family lines (reds among desert and ember dwarves, deep blues among sea and river dwarves, light blues and pale white among snow and wind dwarves, and earthy tones among hill and mountain dwarves)

Dietary Needs and Habits

Dwarves are omnivorous--some communities are highly carnivorous and enjoy red meat, while others emphasize crops or foraging.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Most dwarves have some form of darkvision, enabling them to survive underground or at night. Dwarves also possess a sensitivity for their native element. River dwarves, for example, can listen to running water to learn where it flows and what dwells within it. Hill and mountain dwarves are cunning with stone, able to determine the nature of stoneworks and their approximate depth underground. Desert and ember dwarves are highly sensitive to fire and heat patterns, and wind dwarves possess heightened senses of smell.
