The Grey Jester
Shrouded in misinformation and false legends, the Mocking God set himself as a twisted reflection of The Laughing God . He delights in mockery, in twisting things to horrible reflections of themselves. Rarely acting in concert with the other Infernals, Be’alphegor instead plays monstrous pranks on mortals.
Much like Nefastus, even other Infernals fear the Grey Jester. Bealphegor sneers at Uzhul 's bluster, mocks Anachronous 's designs, points out everything Xethius does not know. Spite, sneering, and jeering are the languages of Bealphegor.
Mortals dread the Grey Jester's attentions, for moreso than any other Infernal he finds ways to influence the Mortal World. The Grey Jester's influence follows no grand design or higher purpose--The infernal finds things that someone cherishes, and twists them into something horrible but darkly humorous. From the mightiest of empresses to the lowliest of servants, none are safe from the Mocking God.

Origins
Nothing is known of the Jester's world of origin, nor of what transpired there, nor why the Jester left that world behind and joined the Infernals in their journey across the Hungry Dark. The Infernal Incursion (4060)
From the beginning, the coalition of fiends known as the Infernals barely held together. Uzhul led them with promises of an undefended world, young and vulnerable, ready to be consumed and shaped according to their desires. Be'alphegor brought no armies, only cackling demons and anarchic spirits. Immediately upon arrival, Be'alphegor broke ranks, failing entirely to coordinate his efforts with the others. Instead, he delighted in traveling across the Dawn, twisting things into mockeries of themselves, finding what the First Minds treasured and ruining it before their very eyes. His favorite trick was to become an echo of First Minds who'd been devoured and appear to their loved ones, tricking them into thinking they'd survived, only to treat them cruelly and break their hearts. The Fall of Luminias (4890)
Before Uzhul turned in desperation to The Scorpion for help, he asked Be'alphegor to undo the bond of Barash and Loetne. Eager to ruin something held so dear, Be'alphegor went to work. He took shape after shape, appearing to Barash as Loetne and to Loetne as Barash. Each time he behaved cruelly or treacherously, out of character, being hurtful and abusive. All his efforts failed--the two lovers had complete faith in each other, and didn't believe for a moment that their beloved would do such things. Ultimately, Be'alphegor became bored, and abandoned the mission, forcing Uzhul to ask The Scorpion. Instead, Be'alphegor turned to a circle of First Minds who shared knowledge and experiences together. He sensed their fear, that Luminias would fall, and all would be lost. Be'alphegor took it upon himself to torment these inquisitive Dawn Entities. Some day, those Minds would become Ioth, The Sage and their companions, and if Be'alphegor is to believed, it was his manipulations that broke their resolve and made them flee before the fall. The Coming of Dragons (4894)
In dark texts and ancient accounts, in stories forgotten by almost all, the tale of how Be'alphegor became the Grey Jester can be found. With Luminias consumed, there was nothing to stop the Infernals from feasting upon the light of Dawn, growing stronger, creating more fiends and shaping the world to their own designs. Be'alphegor created horrors and mockeries of Luminias and all that was lost, pursuing Ioth and the companions, never closing in but always just behind. When The Laughing God opened the seven gates of The Silent City, Be'alphegor was there. For the first time he beheld the great secret hidden behind the light of Dawn. He saw the colorless heights and the titanic stairs, and though The Laughing God is subtle and hidden, Be'alphegor beheld Them. The roar of the Seven Dragons of the World Before echoed across the Dawn, and Be'alphegor fled, leaving armies of fiends and his fellow Infernals to fend for themselves. It was in that moment that Be'alphegor comprehended the nature of Anacra's prime mover--a distant deity, concerned only with joy and the telling of tales, unwilling to directly intervene or take responsibility for what they'd set in motion. Even as the Dragons of the World Before shattered the Dawn and sent the Infernals fleeing in terror, Be'alphegor decided the greatest form of mockery was mockery of the coward god.The Firmament (4999)
Creation's walls closed around Be'alphegor, sealing him off from The Hungry Dark, trapping him and the others within Anacra. But Be'alphegor did not care. Here were new creatures to torment, new lives to ruin, a new creation to lampoon and demean. As the First Minds chose forms for themselves, Be'alphegor chose one for himself--the Grey Jester, the Mocking God, the only one who truly understood the foolishness of the world's Prime Mover. For centuries afterwards, The Grey Jester traveled across the Four Kingdoms, wreaking havoc and scorn where he went, until every culture in The Mortal World had stories of the Cruel Trickster. The Death of Erecura (6412)
Of all the Infernals, the Mocking God had the least to do and the least to gain from the rise of the Demonic Imperium. It took some of the danger out of the Jester's games, but made it possible to do even more heinous pranks. The War of the Sun (6858)
During the last days of Ioth Academy, The Jester took an interest in Athalor An'Andarud and his friends, infiltrating the academy through proxies and cursed items and ultimately possessing the Marid Doobaseef to spread doubt and disorder in the hearts of the students. The Apotheosis of Ramius (6900)
Being banished to The Underworld impacted The Jester more than some of the other Infernals. On the one hand, the Jester had no empires to maintain, no great nations of worshippers cast into chaos by his descent--but on the other, he had relatively few mortal agents, a necessity for the Infernals to wreak their will in the new world order.Quest for the Book of Dawn (7344)
As Thoras Giantsbane returned from the Bone Moon to The Mortal World , the Grey Jester took the opportunity to play a dangerous game of chance. The Jester won, and Thoras' soul was imprisoned in a stronghold of Uzhul.Personality Characteristics
Motivation
The Grey Jester despises sincerity and delights in mockery. Anything anyone holds dear, for any reason, is to be sneered at and destroyed. Any spark of genuine enthusiasm is to be stomped out. The Grey Jester yearns to create a world where all life exists in perpetual scorn of each other, and of itself. Fortunately for all life, the Jester is too easily distracted to set any grand plan in motion--as far as anyone can tell...
