Vindur
The Thunder King Vindur
Hail-Crowned Vindur, Voice of Thunder, Four-Wind Father, Winter Chieftain, Sky Sovereign and Storm Wielder—these are a few of the titles of the great Thunder King, who rules the Sky Kingdom from the Celestial Citadel of Terranimbus. His lightning conquered the Smoglins of the Morass, bent the knee of the Aarakocra, shattered the dragon Shadrash. Other empires come and go, but Vindur’s reign stretches from before the dawn of mortal memory.
As Eternal King of the Storm Giants, Vindur’s chief duty is guardianship of the Celestial Lights, which dance and cross paths directly above the spires of Terranimbus. Only Vindur and his chosen priests may approach them—all others are torn from the skies by the storm that swirls around, buffeting would-be violators with thunder and terrible winds.
There are other matters to tend to, of course—the conquest of newly discovered Cloud-Islands, managing the affairs of a kingdom that stretches across the horizon, passing judgement in matters of disagreement between subject peoples. When the denizens of the morass prey upon the pegasi herds of the aurai, Vindur sends his knights to drive them back into the smokey swamps.
Perhaps more so than any other supernatural ruler, Vindur expects to be treated with the awe and reverence of a god. His patience is not to be tested, for though Vindur is not easily driven to rage, when he finally snaps it is the breaking of a tempest—quite literally. He wields power over the weather both above and below, and is as moody and tempestuous as the Four Winds, his sons.
Nothing infuriates Vindur more than presumptuous mortals. For most of history the Sky Kingdom ignored the realms below, except to inflict their whims and shifting moods on the land in the form of storms, rain, scouring winds and even pleasant weather. But when Uzhul the Destroyer killed Vindur's sibling, Erecura, the Sovereigns realized that they could be destroyed. Since then, Vindur has engaged in a campaign of conquest across the Sky Kingdom, and watches the Mortal Realm below with suspicious, angry thoughts.

The Dawn
The Nameless Power said to the Dawn World, "I release you, be free," and Life unbound came forth. Air woke up, and became Vindur, Hail-Crowned, Voice of Thunder, Four-Wind Father, Winter Chieftain, Sky Sovereign, Storm Wielder. With the other Sovereigns, he brought shape to what became the Dawn World. Each of the Four Sovereigns embodied an element, substance, and so the Light of Dawn could be touched and shaped by those who dwelt within it. The Sovereigns left the world to its own devices, content to Be, for it had no need of their labors. But then came the Infernals, who craved the Dawn, and sought to enslave those who danced free within its light. The Sovereigns held fast to each other, watching with concern as unbound hunger and cruelty began to seize the world of Anacra and reshape it. They did not know how to fight back. When Luminias burned and the First Minds of the dawn were devoured and enslaved, the Nameless Power opened the gates of the Silent City, and from the Seventh Gate came the Dragons of the World Before. They were elemental fury in flesh, and their wrath scattered the Infernals and their legions. The Sovereigns beheld in wonder. When the Dragons of the World Before were sealed once more beyond the Seventh Gate, the Sovereigns took what they learned of power and fury. They resolved that the world should be protected from the greed and cruelty of the Infernals. Together, they gathered their strength, seized the threads of light and substance, and wove the world anew. They spun it into four separate patterns and bound them all together. The Dawn came to an end, the Four Kingdoms were formed, and all Anacra was bound within the Firmament-- a shield, and a prison, to keep the Hungry Dark out, and seal the Infernals within. So ended the dawn. The Day
As the Four Kingdoms took shape, so too did Vindur. He made his home in the Sky Kingdom, where he could watch the vault of heaven and look down on the Mortal World below. He attained mastery over the clouds, and with the other sovereigns brought forth the Giants and the Dwarves, to shape the world, and the genies, to be instruments of their will. The djinn, the storm giants, and the cloud giants were his favored children, but all giants saw him as their High Father, tallest, strongest and wisest. Shaped now into bodies, Vindur partook of the joys and sorrows of mortals. He knew anger at those who tried to take what was his. He felt pride in the works of his children. And he felt desire, for the other sovereigns, his only peers. From a great storm over the sea, he and Li-Ban brought forth a daughter, Realta, who danced in the highest places of Heaven's Vault. In the plume of a great volcano he entwined with the smoke and flames of Sin Al-Gawwar, and Zeilar, the Sun Rider, was born of their union. He flowed through the grass and the trees of the earth, and with Erecura they birthed Killidar Cloudmane, the First horse. And from all of them he brought forth his chosen children, the Four Winds. They rode across all the corners of the earth, and to each of them Killidar gave a foal, who grew to a mighty steed. Pleased with his children, Vindur built a home for himself, a palace of clouds directly beneath the Celestial Lights his daughter, Realta, so loved--Terranimbus, the Halls of Thunder. Then, after, the mortals began to flourish upon the Mortal World. Knowing that the new peoples would need guidance, each Sovereign took to themselves a quarter of the Mortal World. For himself, Vindur claimed Girru, the North East, with its mountains and icy plains. He was stern and strong and taught the people of the mortal world how to hunt, how to build, and how to govern themselves.Earthfall
Then, as he tended his home in the Sky Kingdom, the firmament trembled. The hearts of the Sovereigns shattered. Erecura, Mother Earth, Green Father, was slain, with a blade forged of her own blood, by the hand of Uzhul, who darkened the dawn so long ago. Each Sovereign grieved for their sibling differently. Vindur was gripped by fear and consumed by rage. The Sovereigns did not know they could die. Vindur left the children of the mortal world to fend for themselves, and withdrew to Terranimbus. It was the Fire Giants who made the blackened blade, that slew a sovereign. Though he called himself father of all giants, Vindur in his anger and grief declared the Fire Giants were orphans, no children of his, and he hurled them all from the Sky Kingdom, sending them crashing to mingle with the fiends in the Mortal World far below. The other giants watched, silent, and feared for their own homes and families. Many swore their undying loyalty to their father, while others quietly left before Vindur's anger could turn on them.Conquest of the Sky
Two thoughts consumed the Sovereign of the Sky from that moment forward: protection, and punishment. He could not suffer the same fate as Erecura, and so he fortified Terranimbus, heaping walls and towers upon each other and wreathing his home with terrible storm clouds. As the Demonic Imperiums consumed the Mortal World, he looked to the Sky Kingdom, and felt fear. Only if all fell under his power could he be safe. So he armed his greatest warriors in shining armor and gave them spears of lightning, and anointed them his Knights of Terranimbus. He commanded all his giants and all his faithful to seize each cloud in his name. So began the Conquest of the Sky. Vindur's armies flew across the Sky Kingdom, subjugating aurai enclaves and aarakocra flocks. Any who refused to bow were punished. Some resisted, and banded together in defiance, and Vindur's anger only grew. How dare they resist his will, when he was the wind and sky themselves. To this day, though most of the Sky Kingdom pays homage to Vindur, isolated pockets of resistance still remain.
