The Death of Karuk Batur

Pre-Campaign

Karuk Batur was the third son of the chieftain of the orc clan Batur, a powerful tribe located on the islands south of Iplit. Karuk was kept as a peace hostage in Stormguard Prison until the year 999 I.E., when he was killed apparently in a mining accident. The warden of Stormguard, Iliric Valann, used a guard who resembled Karuk named Jandar Aftroden to replace him, hoping to fake his way through keeping the hostage status quo.   Suspecting that something was wrong, the Batur chieftain sent one of his most trusted agents, a monk named Unanalore, to infiltrate Stormguard and find out if his son was alive.

Chapter 1: Stormguard

After arriving at Stormguard, Unanalore initially believed that Jandar Aftroden was at fault for what happened to Karuk Batur. He attacked Jandar and his two allies as they were working on putting their plot to escape the prison in motion. He soon learned that Jandar was there involuntarily, and became their ally.   Soon after, still in year 999, Jandar Aftroden escaped Stormguard Prison with two other inmates (Quinn Bee, Tealeaf) and Unanalore, as well as an unexpected ally in the ancient trickster cleric Zared. In the process, they killed Iliric Valann and took many of his papers. And also his head. Literally.   After escaping, they discovered among his papers that he was corresponding with many people in the Imperial capital of Ora Victoria, and that at least one of them was an ally in his plot to replace the dead Karuk.

Chapter 2: Mithrana

After an uneventful couple weeks in Mithrana, Unanalore was apparently captured by two Imperial Roadwardens named Sparrow  and Tegrit . He was sentenced to death, commuted to fight in the arena. Iliric Valann's head found its way to the desk of their room in the The Overrated Discovery.
