Sanguine Curse

The Sanguine Curse is the sole method of reproduciton for Vampires, it is the supernatural disease that their blood and fluids naturally carry. Those afflicted by the Sanguine Curse are almost always reborn into Vampires upon death, though a rare few can manage to stave off the disease.

Transmission & Vectors

Those attacked and bitten by a Vampire, or those who are fed the blood of a Vampire, contract the Sanguine Curse. The curse is transmitted via the blood and saliva of Vampires - though other transmission vectors are theorized.

Symptoms

The symptoms of the Sanguine Curse are, at first, non-existent. The symptoms do not reveal themselves until the host body is killed, at which point it enters a slumber for a number of hours prior to awakening as a vampire.
The curse then enters stage one of two, where the symptoms are as listed:

• The host is reborn as an undead
• The host gains the ability to see in darkness at a range of roughly sixty feet
• The host requires permission to enter residences
• The host struggles under the light of the sun
• The host must feed every seven days
  

As time progresses and the afflicted both feed and spread the curse, it evolves once more into it's advanced form:

• The host becomes visibly pained while in running water
• The host's vision in darkness increases in range, effectively doubling
• The host becomes damaged while in daylight
• The host's hunger grows in strength, and they must feed once every three days

Treatment

No truly effective treatment has currently been devised for the rare curse, and victims of the affliction are often hunted to be destroyed as a result.

Prognosis

Though not inherently fatal, those who contract the curse are required by law in the Kingdom of Acarius to report their condition and await response. Often times, these individuals are moved to larger communities to be better monitored until their eventual deaths, where the body is destroyed immediately.
When unreported, the curse causes the host to reanimate as an undead upon death, and the cycle repeats.
