The Teeth

A large-scale criminal organization whose activities are as varied as they are widespread, the Teeth rose to prominence relatively recently after absorbing multiple smaller criminal enterprises. Their network spans across all of Sudras , most of Cindras , and has begun expanding into Estdras , with plans to reach into Nordras within a year or two. Their power and influence have crept into nearly every political faction in every region in which they operate.

Symbols & Icons

The symbol for the Teeth is a set of four teeth, two long fangs surrounding two shorter ones. Members are required to get this symbol tattooed on the bottom of their tounges and on one of their heels. These marks are magically imbued to only appear under certain conditions, to prevent their discovery during mundane searches. The tattooing process is painful, and is a rite of initiation for new recruits.

Criminal Activity

Having made its way into the criminal underground by absorbing multiple smaller networks, the Teeth holds a stake in nearly every criminal endeavor available. They are ever expanding into new territories, including drug smuggling, human trafficking, item smuggling, money laundering, business extortion/protection, espionage, political blackmail, murder for hire, and of course, thievery.

Hierarchy

The Teeth is divided into multiple independent criminal organizations called Jaws. These rings operate with autonomy for the most part - often interacting with members of other Jaws without knowledge. The head of each Jaw, and a small group of trusted lieutenants, are the only members who know any details about the wider organization and other Jaws that operate in the region.   There are different roles that members of the Teeth might perform for the organization.
Canine - These are lower-ranking members of the Teeth, who are responsible for carrying out street-level criminal activities like pickpocketing, mugging, and burglary.
Fang - These members work as enforcers, responsible for the more violent crimes of the organization, such as extortion, assault, and assassination.
Incisor - These are members who specialize in breaking into high-security locations, cracking safes and vaults, and stealing valuable items.
Molar - These are members who focus on smuggling and transporting illegal goods, such as drugs, weapons, and stolen art.
Enamel - These members are responsible for keeping The Teeth's operations running smoothly by handling logistics, communications, and finances.
Wisdom - These are rare members of the Teeth, they are devout followers of the Thief who act as spiritual guides for the rest of the organization. Unlike most members, Wisdoms are given a great deal of autonomy and freedom to move about between Jaws.

Codes of Conduct

Each Jaw operates discreetly and independently. The leadership of the Jaw may interact with the leader of the Teeth, but no ground-level members are permitted to know anything about the organization. If a Jaw is exposed by a government or significantly damaged by a rival organization, it will be extinguished by elite forces. Sometimes the leadership of a compromised Jaw can be repurposed and moved to other Jaws.   Discretion and loyalty are the two highest-valued traits within the organization.   Finally, Jaws are not permitted to leave their jurisdiction or operational functions (such as branching into new pursuits) without the express authorization of the leader of the Teeth.   Leaving the Teeth is not an easy endeavor. Once you join, you join for life. Those few who manage to escape spend the rest of their (usually short) lives on the run. One may attempt to buy their way out if one has the resources. Even then, they are still beholden to the vows of confidentiality they make upon becoming a member and are under constant surveillance.   Most members of the Teeth do not travel outside the area controlled by their assigned Jaw. The few who are allowed to travel are given specific directions and time limits to return. Failing to return within a given time will result in a clean-up team being sent.   An exception to this is often made for clerics of The Thief within the Teeth. As clerics of the Thief are rare, these members are given special status within the organization and are allowed to "float" about to different Jaws.
