Dreidas

The Dreidas are the second oldest space-faring species in Antigone, originating from Ianna in the Destas System. A single-sex race, the Dreidas form the heads of most intergalactic organizations on the basis of their long-life and long-standing in galactic society.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Heavily armoured due to the radiation coming off of their sun, the Dreidas are often varying shades of grey depending on the thickness of their armour pertaining to the location they come from on Ianna. Due to their long history of planetary colonization their armoured skin has been known to grow into shades of pink and blue depending on the environment the colony has, and how long a family line has lived on the planet.
Mammalian in nature, Dreidas are humanoid in shape and appearance except for key differences; they have large, tubular ears that jut out and narrow, sharp faces that aid in scent detection. They also have large hands with claws and long, stout tails. Typically short and stocky due to their plate armour, many human scientists have noted the slight leaning of the Dreidas appearance to the female sex as opposed to the male with wide hips and narrow shoulders.

Genetics and Reproduction

Similar to human females, Dreidas have eggs from which a fetus is born. During intercourse one of the eggs travels from one partner to the other to combine with their own egg, resulting in pregnancy. Due to the presence of two eggs, Dreidas almost always are born two at at time, though exceptions do occur by way of fetal resorption.

Growth Rate & Stages

Because of their extended lifespans, adolsecence for Dredias extend well into their twenties and thirties, while they remain in prime age for almost a hundred and eighty years before twilight and senior designations.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Chief among the abilities of the Dreidas are their hearing due to their large ears, but in addition they also have enhanced nightvision at the cost of impaired day vision often requiring glasses. Also due to the radiation on Ianna, Dreidas have a natural affinity for creating force-fields called castar fields extending from an extra gland at the base of their brain, often used in combat.

Naming Traditions

After the mass colonization of the Dreidas, the entire species adopted the Pesseria naming system which dictates that ones planet precedes the first name (eg. Planet'Name) followed by their birth nation/colony and their family name(s) (eg. Colony'Surname).
