Freya'Yyu
Summary
The story of Freya'Yyu is one of the few myths related to the Divines that the Basilica has not disavowed, though the reason for this is often criticized by human groups in particular.
Freya'Yyu was a Dreidas youth from the colony Freya in the Pre-Era of the Galactic Age. From a young age she'd aspired to explore the stars, a staunch believer in the existence of life outside the Dreidas. At the young age of twenty five, Freya'Yyu had achieved her goal of manning a small exploration vessel commissioned by the artist Freya'Dellt who's work focused on documenting star clusters on the edge of Dreiads controlled space.
While the Yyunafreya Basilicus is a primarily Dreidas practiced religion, the existence of the explorer Freya'Yyu is undeniable in accounts of the first meeting between the Dreidas and the The Swahada. While the exact system they met in has been lost to time, it is undeniable that the ship the Swahadan mining vessel made contact with was the Mimikri, captained by the young Freya'Yyu. Crucially, Freya'Yyu is credited as having diplomatic skills with no equal, the smooth meeting between the new species often cited as the ideal outcome by diplomatic teachers everywhere.
Freya'Yyu was elevated to the position of Swahadan ambassador to her own people, her influence growing in Dreidas space as a pioneer of the Galactic Age.
With this discovery, most of the Dreidas - Freya'Yyu included - turned their sights to the cosmos, wondering what other new friends lay waiting unmet. The Dreidan and Swahadan governments agreed on a joint expedition with the goal of discovering other species in the hope of expanding the intergalactic community and fostering understanding. The natural head of this task force was Freya'Yyu.
They were called the Saint Company, in the hopes that the old-gods of both the Swahada and the Dreidas would guide their way as they explored the stars - and explore they did. Forty years passed during which the Saint Company painstakingly travelled from star to star, cluster to cluster, sector to sector.
Today a single sector can be crossed in around fifteen mynutes using a ///Kamelot Converter at the lowest setting, but the Kamelot Converter wouldn't be invented for another thousand years, and so the maximum speed the Saint Company ship Mikvha Laurell could travel was only about 700 AUPH. Their progress was painstakingly slow, but Freya'Yyu held out hope.
Eventually the group came across another species, the ///Inova and again, Freya'Yyu was able to make easy friends of this new people. Over the course of her hundred year venture aboard the Mikvha Laurell, Freya'Yyu was able to discover five other species, four of which were human in origin - in fact it was Freya'Yyu who first began wondering at the possibility of what would later become the Home World Theory as a reason why so many worlds had been settled by humans before being lost.
Things were going well, until the day Freya'Yyu came across the Nio. At first things went as expected of Freya'Yyu, friendly and responsive - she was truly a paragon of diplomacy. The Nio were surprisingly close to the Desta System along the edges of the Glass Traverse with a surprisingly spread out empire of interconnected allied nations, several of which not even remotely close to each other. This was due to the a Nio invention that actually utilized the unstable pulses of the adjedecit their home system had become infected with, enabling them to project themselves along preordained points in a self described intergalactic train system.
Freya'Yyu and the Saint Company saw the potential good the Nio Relays could bring to the rest of the galaxy and so it became Freya'Yyu's diplomatic mission to induct the Nio into the ///Systems Alliance and bring the relays to the rest of the galaxies. The Nio however refused to budge - they would not let their creation leave Nio Space. The people of the newly formed Systems Alliance were welcome to visit and utulize the relays while in their space, but the relays would not leave.
At first this wish was respected as ordered by Freya'Yyu, but a crew member aboard the Mikvha Laurell disobeyed his captain and stole one of the relays to be returned to Inova Space. This started a war that no one saw coming as the Nio struck out in rage against the Systems Alliance, but particularly the Dreidas who the Nio had felt had wronged them. Freyya'Yyu at first tried to explain, killing the betrayer in her rage as she ordered the return of the stolen relay. The Nio would hear nothing of it, instead striking out at Freya'Yyu and killing most of her crew. They would not be sated.
The war lasted sixty bitter years and Freya'Yyu, now entering her twilight years, could see no end no matter her attempts to bridge the gap. As the Nio forces laid waste to her home planet Freya and turned their sights to Ianna, Freya'Yyu saw no other option. Along with the remaining members of the Saint Company she set into Nio space and detonated the Nio Relays. It is said a holy light overtook her as she set to destroying the adjedecit that powered the machines, completely erasing the Nio and their technology from the map as she gave her life to end the war.
The basis of this myth as evidence of Freya'Yyu being a divine was the destruction of the adjedecit, something no one had ever done and has never managed to do since.
Spread
Later on, as the Basilica formed and it's influence began to spread, many Dreidas cited their hero Freya'Yyu as a possible Divine. This theory picked up speed until finally the Yyunafreya Basilicus was formed. Today it is the most wide-spread religion in the Systems Alliance.
Variations & Mutation
Some older visions of the story of Freya'Yyu cite her actively encouraging the threat of the Nio Relay, or even stealing it herself much to the denouncement of the Yyunafreya Basilicus.
Cultural Reception
The most celebrated Dreidas Holiday is Yyuastice, where people set of fireworks and send their thanks to Freya'Yyu. It is often accompanied by gift giving and grand celebrations in the form of parades and feasts. It is also customary that you leave your doors unlocked so that anyone can come in partake in the festivities, a callback to Freya'Yyu's diplomacy.
