Era Of Fire
The era of fire was a tumultuous timeframe in the recorded history of Cambia .
Preamble:
From 353 to 401, the united gnomish tribes have retreated into the umbrian mountains and layed claim to the underground kingdom they built, as well as the territory around it. Not wanting to fall behind resource and expansion wise, several dwarven tribes made their way to the central mountain ranges of cambia in order to fortify dwarven mining and trading strongholds.
The Mining Event:
In 402AC, a group of dwarven miners broke through a sealed cave network in the winterblade mountains. This network seemed to have it's own thriving ecosystem and was explored. The dwarves were then attacked by an agressive red dragon subspecies and wiped out. The opening drilled by the dwarves was unfortunately large enough for most dragons to escape their prison and led to nearly 100 years of terror in Cambia.
The Nesthunters:
Starting around 506AC, a dwarf by the name of Karnak started to make a name for himself as a dragon hunter, alongside his crew of a dozen other dwarves. His strategy was simple: destroy the nests of the dragons rather than dealing with the dragons themselves. through this strategy he was able to prevent future generations of dragons to cause problems in Cambia.
Fighting back:
Aound 520AC, the strategy of destroying nests no longer seemed to work, as the dragons started protecting their eggs, some starving to death in the process. Destroying a nest now meant killing the dragon that protects it. During the next 40 years, Karnak and his following perfected the art of killing dragons, reducing their numbers drastically.
Firebane:
in 565AC, Karnak extinguished the life of the last known red dragon, becoming a cambian folk hero and ending the era of fire.
Dragon King:
8 months later Karnak crowns himself the first Dragon King of Cambia.
