Circle of Fur and Feather

The Circle of Fur and Feather are the protectors and keepers of animal life on Aorna. They are the most outward facing of the druidic circles, as they often work alongside shepherds, ranchers, hunters and others who interact with fauna in their daily lives. Its members are passionate defenders of nature's cycles, always looking to find balance with the Circle of Leaf and Limb and the Circle of Decay.   The ultimate goal of the Circle of Fur and Feather is to ensure that the animal life of Aorna is well tended and allowed to thrive in an equitable way. This means that no single species becomes dominant in a region, putting entire ecosystems at risk. It also means pushing back against things like deforestation, invasive species, and over-exploitation of the land. While druids of the Fur and Feather adore animal life, they adore it as a whole, and try not to attach themselves to a single species or individual creature. They are especially concerned about incursions from other planes of existence, as the life there often does not operate under the same cycles. A single demon, zombie, or voidkin can do incredible damage to the ecology of a region and the Circle will go to great lengths to eliminate such foes.   Like the other druidic circles, Fur and Feather operates in isolated cells that take responsibility for specific territories and ecosystems. While the Circle of Leaf and Limb and the Circle of Decay operate primarily in remote, wilderness areas, the widespread nature of Aorna's fauna means that Fur and Feather agents are as likely to be found in a city tending to the mice, crows and raccoons as they are in a forest, watching over the deer and wolves. Each cell is led by its senior member, the Chieftain, who also represents the group in a broader circle called an Eclipse - which can span entire continents and oceans. An Eclipse is assembled on extremely rare occasions, either due to a natural disaster, a cataclysm, or a major breach between planes.   The Chieftains nominate and elect a Penumbra to lead the Eclipse through these difficult times. The Circle of Fur and Feather is unique, because each Eclipse operates under two Penumbras: one to represent the needs of life on land and one to represent the needs of life in the sea.   The current Land Penumbra of the Merchant Sea Region is Wroxi Moonbell, a forest gnome from the woods' west of Glimmerhome. The current Sea Penumbra is Thadak Toffar, an orc from The Baskan Isles.   It is unknown how the Circle recruits, but is generally accepted that they look for those who have a natural affinity for working with animals. They are trained from a young age, assigned to a mentor, and steeped in menial tasks until they have proven themselves responsible to wield druidic abilities.     Members of the Circle often wear the hides and leather of animals they have hunted. Their most common symbol is a bear's claw with a red circle etched around it, though they have also been known to use a raptor's talon, a deer's antlers and a shark's tooth.
