Alorin the Inexorable (al-OR-in ya-VOR-eth)
Lire Alorin Yavorreth, Knight-Priestess
Best known as Alorin the Inexorable, Lire Alorin Yavorreth is the much-admired Knight-Priestess of the Oristhanian free city of Khara and the trusted advisor of Her Grace The Lady Lira Thassalar, Duchess of Khara. Lire Alorin is additionally notable for being one of the few Otherborn to hold a significant political title, for they are a fire genasi.
Though Lire Alorin has been a well-respected member of the clergy for two decades, they gained a degree of notoriety after the Severing, for they were among those most active in the recovery efforts that followed the disaster. Though Khara, an old city reliant on little arcane architecture, was in general spared the worst of the Severing's wrath, certain neighborhoods—particularly the New Quarter, a sort of mages' row known for arcanists plying their trade—were still devastated. Lire Alorin spent the whole of Sunsummer 714 on the ground in the New Quarter, working with search and rescue crews digging people dead and alive out from the wreckage and organizing efforts to salvage and rebuild. Their persistence and commitment to the recovery effort in Khara earned them the epithet Alorin the Inexorable and a knighthood in the Order of the Cormorant, a ceremonial knightly order affiliated with the ruling Thassalar family, both of which were bestowed upon Lire Alorin by the Duchess.
Personal History
Alorin Yavorreth became a priestess of Istha at the age of 31, joining the clergy at the Silver Sanctuary, one of Khara's oldest and largest temples of the faith. The Silver Sanctuary served as the home temple for the Thassalar family, which is how Alorin first met the Duchess, who visited the Sanctuary regularly. Over several years, the Duchess bonded with Alorin over a shared interest in philosophy. When Alorin was 40, they accepted the Duchess' request of their service as a spiritual advisor. Two years later, in 709, the previous Knight-Priestess of Khara chose to retire after forty years of service, and she recommended Priestess Alorin as her successor. Alorin Yavorreth became the first Knight-Priestess appointed by Her Radiance Marini of Khara, the recently-ascended High Priestess of Oristhane. The Knight-Priestess' life before the clergy is largely unknown by the public, save what is available in public record. The information that falls into that category is as such: Alorin Yavorreth is not a native of Oristhane, but was instead born in Cethandir in the Federation of Vay, originally named Aloisius Prosenni. When they joined the clergy, they Lischinized their name, taking the common given name Alorin and using the name of Yavorre Elisthath—the de facto matriarch of the Silver Sanctuary, whom Alorin publicly recognized as a beloved mentor figure several times over—as the source of their Lischin matronymic surname.
