One notable life cut short by the Severing is that of Madam Astoria Nethrani ce'Vay, who at the time of her death was the ruling Magelord of Vay. Her death rocked the Federation of Vay to its core; Madam Nethrani was quite young, and had no plans in place for a successor, so the Federation was left scrambling to arrange for the ascension of the next Magelord.
In life, Madam Nethrani was best known as a brilliant archmage despite her youth. As a member of the aristocratic Nethrani family, she received a prestigious education from her early years onward. She ascended to the position of Magelord of Vay in 707 at the age of 36, which makes her one of the youngest to bear the title of Magelord in the Federation's history. She was the youngest until her successor, Madam Novia Celsa, ascended to the role in mid-717 at the age of 29.
