The Verity Pen

A beautiful pen originally given as a gift to Ashali of Varsath, the fifth High Priestess of Oristhane, the Verity Pen has been passed down from one High Priestess to another for some two hundred years. The pen was created by Brannarach Gharst, one of Oristhane's best artificers, and it was he that imbued it with some minor but uniquely useful magic.

Description

The Verity Pen is crafted of ebony wood inlaid with bands of gold; the pen gets its name from an inscription of the word "verity" inlaid in gold into the end of it. The pen's nib is gold as well, and set just above the pen's grip is a single brilliant-red ruby. The pen is said to be remarkably well-balanced and comfortable to hold.

Magical Properties

The pen's creator imbued potent artifice into the pen, bestowing it with a handful of magical properties:

• The pen needs no ink in order to write, and it can write in black, red, or gold as its user desires. Only a moment's thought is needed to change the color of the pen's ink.
• The pen's user can edit and erase their previous writing done with the pen. Writing done with the pen also resists alteration by those other than the pen's user; the pen's writing cannot be covered with other ink or scrubbed away by anyone other than its user.
• Writing from the pen will not fade over time, but rather will stay vivid even over the course of centuries.
• The pen's user will never forget where they put the pen.
• The pen's user can cause it to transform into a dagger and back by quickly pinching the ruby between their thumb and forefinger three times. When in dagger form, the pen looks much like it does in pen form: an ebony handle inlaid with an inscription of "verity" and bands of gold, a single ruby above the grip, and a golden blade.
