Some think being in a mixed unit is somehow less honorable than being in an elite unit. Still, others believe it makes them more versatile and able to adapt to changeable circumstances.
General Maximus "Wall of Atlas" Volkov is the creator of the Unit. After a series of brutal raids on the western borders, he proposed the creation of a flexible and diverse until tasked with rapid response and border patrol. He was given permission and it excelled in its job. They are now a highly decorated unit.
He retired soon after a Shadow Fang raid, in which he lost his wife and son. Maximus is haunted by this and other past failures and seeks revenge for their deaths. After tracking down and defeating the Shadow Fang raiders, he retired to brood on his loss. Before he left, he trained his replacement, Amara "Sunhawk" Kael.
Her past was similar to his, they both rose through the ranks quickly. Like her mentor, she has exceptional leadership and tactical skills. One of the benefits of this post is that she grew up in the Western Marches with a nomadic tribe which gave her a deep understanding of the western terrain, and various threats that live here. She is a stoic and resourceful leader, a highly charismatic leader, and is calm under pressure.
