Brigid's Taphouse

Written by Pookas Kreations

This is the first tavern dedicated to the Goddess Brigid. It was established soon after the completion of the main Church of Brigid and served multiple functions, a brewery, bakery, and tavern. It is very popular with all of its patrons. Many of them come because they feel welcome, loved, and better when they are there.

Purpose / Function

To make and sell drinks, potions, food, and comfort to all that need it. The food and drink are more than it appears. Healing draught and extra nutrients are often added to anyone's order that is needed. Everyone is made welcome, treated like family, comforted, and healed when needed.

Entries

The main entrance is through the common room, the other entrances are through the kitchen and brewery.

Sensory & Appearance

They smell homemade food from the kitchen, herbal and floral scents from the drinks, and candles. It appears as a rustic tavern.

Denizens

All nearby races can be found here, as well as other well-traveled ones. The most common are tree gnomes, halflings, elves, and various fae.

Contents & Furnishings

The bar and shelves behind it, tables and chairs or benches, armchairs, the fireplace, and a stage.

Hazards & Traps

There are no hazards unless you disrespect Brigid, Iphin, or the staff.

Special Properties

Since Iphin is merged with the building, he can change various properties to his, the staff, or the patrons' needs. He can control the environment, create or rearrange rooms, furnishings, lights, cook food, deliver drinks, etc.

Alterations

The taproom started as just a brewery with an external bar and stools. Later on, a common room was added, a kitchen, and then a few rooms. The look of the building changes depending on the matron, her style is eventually reflected on the building.

Architecture

The taproom is a low-lying, sprawling building of a simple style. The material appears to be of wood, but it is almost indestructible.

Defenses

The first line of defense is Iphin, he protects it up to his ability with the power that Brigid, Goddess of Creativity allows him. Next is the matron/barkeep, Brigid's protectors, and then Brigid herself.

History

The taproom was built as an extension of the church to attract those that aren't interested in a church and also those that need healing but are too proud to ask for help. Iphin has merged with the building and gains power from the joy of the people that frequent it. He gains strength from this, and also his power.

The first barkeep was Mother Floria, she is a Tree Gnome, that comes from a long line of brew matrons. Her family is known far and wide for their light beers, ciders, and herbal wines.

Her smile is warm, her laughter is infectious, and her hospitality is unmatched. She has a propensity to accidentally sneak up and startle people and because of her keen hearing, hears almost anything that is said in her bar. She tends the tavern for Brigid and acts like a mother to all who enter. She runs the brewery, kitchen, and bar with a smile. Everyone is offered food and drink whether they can afford it or not.

Floria is an avid gardener and grows most of her own ingredients for her brews as well as the kitchen. Her signature brew has a special ingredient that can only be found in secluded locations near Faewild incursions or the Faewild itself.

Her helpers include a set of halfling triplets that do many of the chores around the building. They are in a constant feud with the tavern spirit, Iphin, he is a minor god of alcohol & food (partying like Bacchus, who lost his followers and was reduced to little more than a spirit ally. He almost faded away, before Brigid found him and gave him a job.

Iphin prepares and delivers food and drink to the patrons seconds after ordering it, when paid the money disappears. He also cleans the common room and upkeeps the kitchen. The triplets and he are in a feud on jobs are whose to do. He sulks or plays pranks on those that refuse to pay him for his work or are rude.

I really enjoy the theme of this tavern and I get a sense that it is a work in progress. I enjoy short and simple verses beneath titles, but I feel like the tavern could use a lot more information beneath each title. The tavern feels so fascinating and magical! Like it has a sense of being a religious place, and yet it has magical properties - I'd really like to see those extended a bit! A very interesting and unique concept, it is rare to see a tavern dedicated to a deity!

The magical component is masterly weaven into the decription. The option to rearrange rooms or furniture sounds quite practical. I also like the connection between the church of Brigd godess to the place, reflecting her healing and comforting nature.

The world is not enough.

Good job on a taphouse that Brigid would be proud of. Couple of things. Don't feel the need to be bound by the prompts the article type gives you. It can be best to take some notes there, and then consolidate it into a more naturally flowing freeform at the top. Another thing that might be worth adding to the sidebar is a bit on Brigid. I assumed you meant a Brigid similar to the one in the mythology of the Tuatha Dé Danann, but others may not be familiar.

Check out some of my summer camp articles, like the dangerous flying jackalope or dragon wasps. Or, for something more light-hearted, there is the whimsical language Gobbledygook and Jaden's interesting job as a guano polisher.
