History of the Travelers

Written by Pookas Kreations

The nomadic tribe of halflings known as The Travelers are a people geased to travel with the wind. They were cursed by a primordial earth spirit called Gaia's Heart. The people were forever destined to roam until they rectified a past transgression, a wrong so deeply buried in their collective memory that has faded into myth.   There are few mages with the Travelers, because of the geas, their magic is cursed. Only nature magic works correctly all other magic is unstable, they have to roll on a Wild Magic table to discover the result.

Shared customary codes and values

Legends whisper of a time when they weren't nomads. Most tribes have forgotten this fact, and only remember their travels. The only thing that they remember is that whenever they come to a water source like a spring that they need to cultivate the area with plants and leave it cleaner than when they arrived.   In the past, a family of farmers lived in a verdant valley, nestled amidst rolling hills. They were renowned for their connection to nature, especially their ability to coax life from barren soil and have bountiful harvests. Their prosperity was fueled by a dark secret--a hidden spring, pulsing with life magic. The problem was that it wasn't theirs, but it was stolen from a sleeping primordial earth spirit, he called it Gaia's Heart.   Over the years of farming has almost depleted the spring and woken the primordial. The ancient halflings reveled in extravagant feasts, harvests, and parties, they didn't stop until the water was gone and they decided to move to a new valley and start again somewhere else.    As they began packing up to leave, a storm developed, then an earthquake. Walls blocked the exits from the valley, and a booming voice berated the people for their trespass of the Heart. You desecrated my beloved Gaea's memorial and siphoned off her remaining energy. A geyser erupted, the valley was split in half, and the travelers were scattered across the land.    He laid a geas (curse) on them, to wander forever, seeking a new home.  The traveler's redemption lies in restoring the balance they disrupted. Wherever they go, they can use their innate connection to the earth to revitalize barren lands. Nurturing new life with their own hands, to slowly replenish the stolen magic.   Some of them seek the song of Gaea's Heart, they travel constantly searching for pieces of the perfect song by finding harmony with nature spirits, animals, the fae, a quiet place in nature, wise druids, and ancient ruins. Once they feel the completeness of the song in unison, they must return to the valley to appease the Heart and restore the balance.
