Petralys
Before Teranik was poisoned by the overshadowing of the Plane of Shadows, a nomadic tribe lived in the Petralys Desert in the center of the continent. This tribe was called the Nabateans. They were experts at survival in this harsh land and knew how to turn almost any situation to their advantage.
When they discovered the winding canyons they called it the Siq, which means the winding snake. This became their new winter home. Nabateans are expert engineers with stone, water, and fire.
They quickly created an extensive city within its walls, with temples, foundries, wells, geothermal heating, waterworks, housing, storage areas, housing, and whatever else they needed.
Eventually, their winter home became a large bustling market town, its inhabitants call it Petralys or Petra. In the beginning, it was just a popup market at certain times of the year, but as it became more popular they turned it into a permanent structure.
To protect it and its customers from the desert sandstorms they built it into the outer canyon walls. This took years to complete, but they used temporary structures in the interim. They included warehouses, shops, inns, and anything else a thriving market town needed.
The rest of the canyon was gated to protect it from both known and unknown dangers. No outsider has or will ever see beyond those gates unless they can conquer the Nabateans. The inner city and monastery as called Ed-Deir, the hidden city or sanctuary.
Many items can be found in the Market. Various craft items are made of stone, metal, glass, or composites. Although, wood is a rare commodity here, as there are few trees. Exotic foods, spices, clothing. Just about any items that travel well in the dry desert heat that has been traded from any of their other trade routes.
