Traveler's Diet of Scarcity

When food is scarce on their journeys, The Travelers often use  the blood of the Olipeds as source of both drink and protein. This only happens in certain situations like during a famine. This is only done to survive but they are never killed in the endeavor. A hollow tube is inserted into the jugular vein and a small amount of blood is drained.

Oliped blood is thick, sweet, rich, and not as salty as many mammals. Travelers often use small amounts of this blood in many of their dishes. Although, they never drain enough to weaken the Oliped.
