Eye of Mercannan

The Eye of Mercannan is an infamous jewel. It is a giant blue sapphire, about the size of a man's fist. It is said that light passing through it creates the ripple of the waves.
It's origin, as the literal eye of Mercannan, is related in the tale of the The Birth of Umberlee. 
It is claimed among the royal regalia of the Emperor of Mitzu, as a signifier of their right to rule. It's loss led to the Seclusion period of Mitzu, where the Emperors were virtual prisoners within the confines of their palace.
