The Guilliero Family
The Guilliero family were a relatively important and respected family of Paragan in Milagon until the failures of Arnaldo Guilliero and his adventures as a member of the Crimson Order. Beyond Arnaldo, the following members of the family have been encountered:
Deidra Guilliero (deceased)
Deidra was a fine-featured woman of noble birth, with dark hair styled into ringlets. Her complexion was a as pale as her husband’s, but her expression much brighter, her dark brown eyes warm and kindly. She was the one true love of Arnaldo Guilliero but grew sickly and died shortly after Arnaldo returned from his great expedition.
Armando Guilliero (deceased)
Armando was the historic Arnaldo Guilliero’s eldest son and greatly enjoyed the trappings of nobility, taking the ridicule of his family name particularly harshly. He blamed his father for this, along with the death of his mother. The two had a violent quarrel from which neither could be reconciled.
After his father’s death, Armando would not be denied his birth-right, nor his inheritance and so took immediate ownership of the Guilliero estate . However, he fell victim to the ghost of his father and now exists as an angry spirit who haunts the ground floor rooms, particularly the dining room where he has slashed the family portrait.
Motive: He has long since faded into a creature of pure anger and spite and thus Armando can no longer take physical form, though his rage is powerful enough to send objects (crockery, cutlery, chairs etc) flying across the room. The spirit of Armando Guilliero was destroyed by the Thanes of Order.
Eldriche Guilliero (deceased)
Eldriche was the younger of Arnaldo’s two sons and the more academically gifted. Eldriche visited his mother on her deathbed and left the family home after her passing and though he would stay in contact with his father, he would never return. The contemporary Arnaldo Guilliero is a direct descendant of Eldriche and the last of the Guilliero bloodline. Eldriche lived a rich and fulfilling life and has long since passed on to the afterlife.
Eduardo Guilliero (deceased)
Eduardo and his twin brother Michele decided to ignore their family’s protestations and sought to inhabit the Guilliero estate. As twins they both had equal right to this inheritance, but secretly, neither wanted to share this with the other. As such, both hatched plans to dispose of the other. Eduardo chose poison, whilst Michele chose a more direct approach: a knife through the ribs. Ever the more impatient (he was, after all, technically born a few minutes before his twin) Michele struck first.
check is required if the players wish to lie. On a failure, Eduardo attacks. If he is severely injured , he will attempt to retreat back to the Ethereal Plane. However, if players encounter Eduardo first or manage to deceive him, he will offer to share a secret with them in exchange for destroying the ghost of his treacherous brother. He tells the players they will find Michele in the lounge. If the players succeed in this task, Eduardo will appear briefly and warn them to avoid the dining room as an angry spirit dwells there. This spirit is unusual as it can interact with physical objects around it. Eduardo then passes on to the afterlife, his unfinished business resolved. However, if players are unsuccessful, Eduardo brands them as dullards and will coldly fight them to the death. Motive: Revenge on his brother. */ The party destroyed Michele’s ghost and Eduardo is able to pass on to the afterlife, his unfinished business fulfilled.
Michele Guilliero (deceased)
Michele is the twin brother of Eduardo. Having successfully stabbed his brother, he sequestered himself to the lounge and poured himself a glass of wine to celebrate a plan well-executed. Unfortunately for Michele, his brother was just as treacherous, if slightly subtler with his methods. Barely a moment after the wine touched his lips, he was choking on the bitter taste of poison, mixed with his own blood. The Thanes of Order destroyed Michele’s ghost.
Sofia Guilliero (deceased)
Sofia has the characteristic white streak in her curly dark hair, though this is tied back into a ponytail. Her clothing is more in line with a scholarly class of person and significantly less dated than other spirits. She dates from the last century, possibly even the last fifty years. She wears large round eyeglasses and appears to have been in her early to mid-twenties when she died.
Sofia was actively investigating the family curse and moved into the Guilliero estate. Her notebook contains her research and early findings. She was able to explore the first two floors before it grew dark and she retired to the Master Bedroom to sleep. During the night she was visited by the ghost of Arnaldo Guilliero who asked her if she ‘believed’. Unfortunately, her enquiring mind went into overdrive and she asked him questions rather than responding in the affirmative. As a result, the ghost grew hostile and she succumbed to its withering touch. Her body was left to fester for some time before she was discovered and the keys to the house retrieved.
Sofia wanted nothing more than to uncover the mysteries of the Guilliero family. She also knows a lot about the history of Arnaldo and his family and will freely share information if approached her in a scientific or academic way, though she mistrusts social niceties and pandering as she associates such tactics with the ambitious, but less intelligent people who often tried to take credit for her work when she was alive. Sofia knows the stories and identities of all the other undead creatures in the house, having either pieced the information together or from interviewing during her afterlife. If players mention the second floor whilst in her presence, she will warn them that something unnatural stalks the hallways above. Sofia has met the Thanes. She took a shine to Petryan Thodor due to his scientific mind, but mistrusts Gamble due to her fawning attempts at persuasion. Sofia’s fate relies on the party returning and lifting the curse of Arnaldo Guilliero.
Zella Chesleale nee Guilliero (deceased)
Zella appears as a woman in her thirties. Her clothes are far plainer than the other spirits of the house, though her long black hair exhibits the tell-tale Guilliero streak. Zella’s face bears a mournful expression and her head is permanently tilted at an odd angle due to her broken neck, dislocated vertebrae bulging oddly beneath her translucent skin. Zella was abandoned by her philandering husband, who abandoned her and their young son, Paolo, and left them to fend for themselves. Alone and desperate, Zella resorted to claiming the vacant Guilliero estate, in spite of the legends of the family curse. Needless to say, the spirit of Arnaldo discovered her and possessed her body, forcing her to hang herself from the first-floor balcony. Without his mother, Paolo starved to death and his remains are still present in the nursery on the second floor. Zella wished nothing more than to be re-united with Paolo. The players discovered Paolo’s bones and brought them to Zella in the Lady’s Chamber. In return she thanked them and informed them of how she witnessed the ghost of Arnaldo emerging at midnight from the portrait. Both she and Paolo were able to pass on to the other side.
Paolo (deceased)
Paolo is still lost and afraid. Initially he is meek and shy, but his spirit is capable of throwing an almighty tantrum if provoked. Paolo just wanted to find his mama. The Thanes discovered Paolo’s bones and brought them to Zella in the Lady’s Chamber. Both she and Paolo were able to pass on to the other side. Arnaldo Guilliero the Younger
The sole surviving member of the cursed line.
