Ingermon Coast

Geography

The coastal stretch between the Eastern Margreave Forest and the River Argent in the south and the Upper Colonies at the tip of Calimshan is often called the Ingermon Coast, for the mighty Ingermon River flows through it. The coast is sliced into two distinct halves by the mighty Ingermon River, which originates from the cold Cliffgan Mountains and flows southward. Due to its northern location, the climate is specifically dictated by the cold weather patterns, creating a unique coastal plain.    The plains of the Ingermon Coast are flat, making them ideal for settlement. However, the northern placement of the region means shorter growing seasons overall. The soil is usually rocky, with mixes of more full plant life in the south and more tundra like grasses in the north. The ocean coast varies from steep, rocky cliffs to stretches of pebble covered beaches. At the southern most point, the Ingermon River's flow creates an estuary that teems with life, but harsh storms and flooding have made it unsuitable for major settlements.

Climate

Being at a higher latitude, the Ingermon Coast has cold winters and short summers. It's nearness to the coast gives it regular moisture, resulting in frequent snowfall in the winter and light rain in the spring and summer. The influence of the sea nearby can moderate the more "extreme" colds of winter but sudden storms and cold fronts can cause harsh changes at random.

Fauna & Flora

The coast is home to a plethora of magical and mundane flora and fauna, all adapted to the chillier environment of the region. Puffins and Snow Hares are regularly seen, as well as a great amount of species of tundra grasses and frostferns. The region is most famous for it's Icebloom flowers, that only sprout and bloom in deep and harsh winters. The flowers have a magical ability to freeze any creature or object they touch, and are highly sought for rituals by sages and wizards. Since the Dragon Plague, Ice Drakes have been a common threat, and are often hunted by monster slayers or hired adventurers. Finally, Tidewalkers are semi-aquatic creatures resistance to the chill waters of the Ingermon and the nearby Pacjour Sea. They resemble a fusion of fish and man, and are believed to be animate elemental spirits in mortal form. Rarely appearing, it is said that holding the heart of a Tidewalker can enhance ones ability and luck with fishing.

History

Settled during the Northern Wars, the region has never been a major stronghold of Calishite power, and still today faces threats from rogue beastfolk tribespeople.

Tourism

Major Landmarks in the Region -   The Emerald Spire - A strange ruin in the cold plains near Fort Inevitable, a small military town controlled by the Keepers. Six miles north of the fort lies one of the strangest dungeons on Aralla. Like an iceberg, this weird structure shows only a small portion of itself above the surface; level upon level of hidden vaults and mysterious crypts lie buried deep below the ground. Few of the people living in Fort Inevitable or the surrounding lands have even the slightest inkling of the dungeon’s true extent, let alone its astounding age.   Ruins of Eldra - Ancient stone structures, said to be the most western ruins of the extremely ancient Daevite civilization lay near the oceans edge. The ruins are cursed however, and most people avoid them, as they attract aberrations and undead from the nearby lands.
