Upper Colonies

Geography

The Upper Colonies encompass a vast stretch of land that lies sandwiched between the roaring waves of the Pacjour Sea and the imposing heights of the Cliffgan Mountains. Much of its terrain is rugged, with patches of coniferous forests, misty meadows, and scattered clusters of settlements. The most stunning geographical feature in the west of the Upper Colonies is the canyon system carved by the relentless push of the Pacjour Sea. The ocean water penetrates deep into the land, resulting in a vast canyon filled with brackish water called Wave Canyon. Over millennia, the water has sculpted the canyon walls, creating intricate patterns and hidden coves.

Climate

Due to its geographical location, the Upper Colonies experience a cold maritime climate. Winters are long and harsh with frequent snowfalls, while summers are cool and short. The proximity to the ocean means the region is often cloud-covered, leading to misty mornings and evenings.

Fauna & Flora

The coast is home to a large amount of magical and mundane flora and fauna, all focused on surviving the cold climate. Iceweaving Spiders are commonly found, spinning webs that look and feel like ice, catching prey and keeping them frozen in a cocoon. On a more peaceful note, Sea Puffs are found near the shores, these chubby seals inflate when in danger like a pufferfish. Their cute apperance has made them a favorite among the locals.

Tourism

Major Landmarks in the Region -   Frozenfalls - A colossal waterfall near the city of Marhihwit that freezes over in winter, creating a shimmering cascade of ice. In the warm months, the melting ice creates a rainbow mist that can be seen for miles.   The Lighthouse of Lyr - An ancient metal structure, towering over a cliff in the southern shoreline. It is said to have been built by a dead civilization. The lighthouse is not longer functioning, but its structure and metal components are studied by scientists looking to improve their methods.   The Frostfire Crypt - Located deep in the mountain edge, this crypt is said to be once a lair of a titan who commanded fire and ice. The dungeon is a maze of frozen paths and scorching chambers, testing the spirit and body of heroes who sought an audience with the titan in the past. The titan is assumed to be long dead, and the location of the tomb lost.
