North of White River

Geography

North of the White River, the land is predominantly flat and rolling plains, making it ideal for agriculture and raising livestock. The fertile soil near the riverside supports the growth of various crops, and many farms and plantations are settled around the area, taking advantage of the terrain. The lower grasslands of the plains are often adorned with wildflowers during the spring and summer months. Apart from the major White River, the plains have many small rivers and waterways, flowing east and south from the Twilrock Mountains.

Climate

The region itself is temperate, with warm summers and mild winters, with chillier winters near the woods to the north. Rainfall is average and mostly during the fall and winter months, often during into snow in the north. While summers are warm, they are usually not excessively hot, and winter are generally mild with occasional snowfall. The moderate rainfall supports the growth of the region in the region, but brings quite a bit of stormy weather, and lightning storms are common in this area.

Fauna & Flora

Traveling the plains above the White River, the Thunderhoof is a magnificent creature resembling a bull with shimmering silver fur. Its hooves create sparks as it gallops and can summon lightning bolts while it's raining or cloudy. The Thunderhoof was often associated with storms and was believed by the native beastfolk tribes to be an omen for great storms to come. Grow on both plantations and appearing wild in the hills is the Sunstraw, a tall, gold colored grass that thrives in the open plains. It is strangely strong and flexible, making great material for ropes and baskets.

History

The area above and around the White River was originally a major gathering and migration ground for beastfolk tribes in the region. After 500 AC and the White River Offensive, the Syl-Pasha Zulan spent his life conquering the region, destroying and displacing beastfolk tribes, wild elven clans, and circles of druids as he did. One of the largest forts in the region shares a name with him, and he is seen as one of the greatest leaders in Calishite history.

Tourism

Major Landmarks in the Region -   Fort Zulan was originally a simple fort, but has grown into the central city for the region. It functions as both a major city for military affairs and training as well as a bureaucratic center for the lands above the White River.   Salijjah is a major city for slave trading in the region, as it is surrounded by hundreds of plantations and farming operations along the southern edge of the region. Along with being a major target for the The Nadhari, Salijjah is one of the larger cities in the region, boasting a beautiful rural area surrounding the main city for miles.   The southernmost city above the White River, Teshburl is a trade hub for goods traveling north from the White River, and is the first major stopping point along the Golden Way, a trade road leading north to the dwarven city of Khamgarohm.   On the edge of the Cliffgan Woods, the city of Budakan is built in combination with Mountain Dwarves that left Khamgarohm or were exiled, giving the city a strange mix of dwarven and human culture that is similar yet unique from the cities in Bhim Buldahr.   In the east of the midpoint between Fort Zulan and Teshburl lies the Serpent Gorge, a deep, winding canyon that cuts through a portion of the plains. The gorge is named for the serpent-like shape it takes as it twists and turns through the landscape. It is a well loved destination for explorers, as many of the lower parts of the Gorge have caves and tunnels into the Underdark.
