Pain-Takers

Overview

The Pain-Takers were a relatively new clerical order subservient to the Church of the Morninglord. Instead of being developed or commanded to exist by their god, this order was formed informally by exiled or "unimportant" groups of clerics within the empire of Calimshan.

Activities

Despite their name, the Pain-Takers didn't literally take the pain of people onto themselves, instead they focused their magic and teachings on helping people cope with their pain. They did this with the intent of helping people endure and grow stronger, and that this was preferable to standing up to evil forces and failing. However, some Pain-Takers did attempt to alleviate suffering where it occurred, and they also spoke up for the rights of common people. Such clerics were considered radicals within the Empire of Calimshan and were usually doing their work in secret.
