Raveyar/Nebelun (Rav-ee-yar/Nebe-lun)

Overview

Killed by the Tyrant Callus Starbane during the calamity, they were the twin sibling of Atetsis and the dwarven god of invention and artifice. Venerated by dwarves, humans, and gnomes (who know him as Nebelun) alike, Raveyar transforms ideas into concrete form and inspires mortals to make new things. They care only for the act of creation, playing little heed to the consequences of letting loose their inventions into the world. Some in the church of Atetsis oppose the Wonderbringer for holding technology over the Art, but in truth Raveyar viewed magic as simply another tool by which they could create new devices. In gnomish communities it is accepted that when Raveyar was killed during the Calamity, the trickster god and leader of the gnomish pantheon Garl Glittergold outwitted Callus Starbane and stole the divine spark left behind, taking it to safety where it formed into the Gnomish god Nebelun. Nebelun quickly assumed Raveyar’s leftover portfolio and supplied power to Raveyar’s church, while receiving the worship as an aspect.   During the Godfall, he was destroyed by secretive cultists of Mekhane, who then attempted to use his parts to rebuild their god. Their heresy warped technology and caused the plane of Mechanicus to collapse, destroying it and making certain technologies fail.

Portfolio and Responsibilities

They are a god whose portfolio includes artifice, craft, construction, and smith work. Except in the roaming cities of gnomish culture, the church of Raveyar consists largely of itinerant clerics who move from town to hamlet to city, finding employment as master crafters, builders, smiths, and engineers. Settling in one place is frowned upon unless a cleric can show his or her superiors that the prospective home is a center for innovation. In recent years, the church of Raveyar has earned the ire of rulers across Ekrune for introducing smoke powder and firearms to the realm when it came to Ekrune from the lands of the Calimshan. Most view such weapons as a threat to their authority, as they approximate the power of a wizard’s spells yet are usable by commoners who are not invested in supporting the status quo.

Holidays

Their one holy festival is the Ippensheir, named for Ippen, Raveyar's First Servant, and celebrated during the twelve days immediately following Greengrass. All clergy of Raveyar and his devout worshipers gather at a temple, abbey, or holy site where a famed inventor or craftsmen once worked. It is a time of feasting, drinking, and revelry, during which they show inventions to and share innovations with their fellow Raveyaran. Some visit as many gatherings of the faithful as they can during this time, using a network of portals maintained by the church to link major defensible holy houses.
