Halflings

Halflings may be a people without a nation, but they can be found almost anywhere. Slightly taller than gnomes, but perhaps not nearly as crazy, halflings have integrated themselves into most societies where they are welcome. Upbeat and optimistic, sometimes to a fault, more than one halfling has met their end perilously exploring am Ancients ruin and encountering something best left undiscovered.   The natural adaptability of halflings has allowed them to survive the many trials they have faced, even before had the freedom of mind to understand this. Having been a race of mind-locked slaves only a few hundred years ago, halflings value freedom above all and seek to instill as much wherever they settle.

Civilization and Culture

Relationship Ideals

Owing to their freedom-loving nature, halflings tend towards polyamory. This usually results in large, extended households filled with friends, lovers, and partners. These households strive to aid one another, and see any new addition as one that would strengthen the whole.

History

When the Elves established their enclaves millennia ago, they eventually took to bringing over many creatures from across the many worlds of the Novagleam Empire. One such creature was the diminutive halflings, who the elves used for labor, pleasure, and sport. The creatures known as halflings had long ago had their minds broken by the elves sorceries, and as such obeyed their masters without question, no matter the danger or pain it caused them.   During the centuries-long Voidgate War, when the many races of Aramanth banded together to repel the advancing hand of the God-Empress, that the halflings earned their freedom. When a group of elves defected from the empire to aid their adopted home, along with their defection they broke the mind-lock holding the halflings in mental servitude. Many halflings died in their flight from their elven masters, but those who did escape took refuge in the free settlements of men, dwarves, and orcs.   Today, the halflings live in and among the nations of Aramanth, as well as in the many communities outside of civilized lands. A few groups have congregated together in the passing centuries to form small communities of their own in the wilderness outside. These places are welcoming to strangers and are especially eager to aid victims of slavery or tyranny, doing whatever they can to spirit them away to freedom.
