Tieflings

Found roaming the wilds and wastelands between the guarded settlements of Aramanth can be found the result of many who left to make lives away from civilization. Some survive, surely. Many die. Others, however, are changed. The word given to these beings was "abhuman", people who lost their humanity through mutation, savagery, or something altogether stranger. The goat-headed Margyr are one example of such beings. The tendril-headed sathosh is another. These creatures harry civilized lands, killing, capturing, and sometimes devouring the people there.
Tieflings are not abhumans, not exactly. But they undoubtedly bear a lineage touched by something from the Outside. They bear horns of various shapes and tales that lash and coil about their legs. Their eyes are solid with no pupil like an elf's, though they come in many more colors.
Some say that tieflings are beings on the way to becoming abhumans, teetering on the edge of literal beasthood. If this is so, it is taking a considerable long time to occur, for tieflings have existed in small pockets of the larger cities for several thousand years now. Still, they often face suspicion and mistrust wherever they go, and whether this breeds resentment or resistance depends on the individual.
