The Safiran Crusade, with the aid of the Swiftsteel adventurers and the Leonemaister siblings Lance and Elizabeth, create a plan to confront Fion once and for all. Led by Knight-Commander Guillame Olivier of the Order of Safiran Daybringers, the Daybringers, the Swiftsteels, and the Leonemaisters orchestrate a gambit to distract Fion as long as possible for the rest of the Crusade to arrive in a deadly flank that ultimately succeeds in ending the bloodshed.

In the process, Lance is killed and Elizabeth stricken by grief and injured. Desperate to distract Fion, Elifaen Swiftsteel engages in single combat with the goddess and survives long enough for the Safiran Crusaders to arrive. Elifaen disappears in the chaos, but her and the Leonemaister's deeds in the battle become known throughout the Heartlands.
