Golemancy

To make inanimate material move takes magic and engineering in equal measure. The combined effort is called Golemancy and it is one of Arbors great arts. The golems do not have real life and unlike the Artifex are far less capable of taking on complex instructions. However that is not to say they are inferior, much of the golems are far stronger, bigger and more powerful than the artifex. In addition they can be made in nearly any size the largest being The Old Man a hulking creation from the time of the Reconciliation. Golems though are simple creatures they take commands from their bound partners and that is all, but they can be and are made of almost anything. They are not the precision tool desinged for every application possible no instead they are the exact right tool for the specific job as long as you know exactly what you need.
"You get used to seeing the porter Golems, the huge iron constructions that lift steel from the foundries and load them on to trains for transport, it's the flesh ones that will really unerve you..." - Random Golemancer

History

According to the Ember Golem Core golemancy has existed since before the city of Arbor, at least that's what they believe. The first Golems created from clay with a single magical sigil placed upon it's tongue and brought to life by multiple mages all chanting and bestowing their power into them. If this is true or not is anyone's guess. For more modern history this was a lost art something that was originally used in earnest during the time of the Reconcilliation in order to fight and defend those of the Ember Core. After this ended of course Golemancy dissapeared or was more accuretly hidden from view. Recently though it has resurged with the Church's waning strength those who were in hiding saw their moment to bring it back into the light.

Inventor

No inventor has ever been credited with the creation of Golemancy

Impact

Golemancy has seen an incredible impact upon the city of Arbor and even in some cases abroad. Golems can be tfound all over Arbor taking the place of much of the heavy machinery that might be needed in it's place. As such large companies use Golems all over their industries though none have fully golem workforces as the creations can be quite expensive depending on their material construction and complexety of instruction set. Regardless Golemancy remains one of the earliest forms of automation within Arbor so has garnered some wary skepticisim from the populace, it is a good thing the creations are not very human like perhaps if they were more people would seek them out for destruction.

Utility

Golems can be created to perform simple mundane tasks and below is a short list of the most common activities that a golem might undertake:
  • Bodyguard
  • Bouncer
  • Porter
  • Crane
  • Miner
  • Gladiator
  • Solider
  • Cleaner
  • Coal Shoveling
  • Street Light Maintenence

Components

Golems can be made with any number of things though there are a few main types that are covered in the Ember Golem Core entry for ease I will list them here below:
  • Flesh
  • Clay
  • Iron
  • Wood
These are the main types however there have been others spotted in the wild made of more esoteric materials like glass, copper and even diamond. There really isn't a limit to what a skilled craftsmen can fashion after all.
