Marisa Lavin

Marisa Lavin's life is one of tragedy and shows just how quickly your fortunes can shift in Arbor. From the heights of riches to a failing business Marisa has weathered the storm of such a fall as best she could but even the most stalwart and resolute of souls will eventually crumble. Perhaps it is only a matter of time until Arbor claims another victim and one more is added to the pile of corpses that capatilism necessetates.

Marisa takes after her father a mediterrian skin tone with dark curly hair, she is fully Human though some have said that with her affinty for water perhaps some amount of Water Touched has snuck in there.

Personality

Marisa is a resolute and determined young woman she would have to be to weather the multiple tragedies that she has been through. She leads what is left with the same determination that is in her personal life trying her best in every siotuation tring to claw back some small amount of prestige and honor that her faily has let slip away. However even the most stalwart individuals will break eventually and those closest to her have noted a kind of mania associated with the restoration of her families wealth perhaps one more push would spiral her into doing something truly monstrous or maybe she already is?

Background

Marisa's life is one filled with expectations and then the tragedy that occurs when those expectations are not fufilled, both for her and those around her.

Early life

In her early life Marisa lived a charmed existance her family controlled the waterways of Arbor providing taxi services to many and doing it a damn sight faster and cleaner than The Coachmen could so was slowly squeezing them out of business. She was groomed to be the next head of the Lavin clan educated in the rules for the Gondoliers that would be under her employ and told of the importance of expanding her empire by the digging of new canals. Her two fathers were instrumental in guiding her through this early childhood but they were also complacent in what was slowly being built under their feet.

Steam arrives

With the opening of the third railway station the writing was on the wall, the Coachmen had already disbanded into The Checkers and much of the business that the Ferrymen usually grabbed was being taken by the newly established The Black Hands. Over the course of the next few years more and more tunnels and railways stations were built all across Arbor and the Ferrymen saw profits plummet as a result. What used to be a simple easy money generating system of issuing licences and collecting profits was now being eroded in a matter of months.

The Toll of Progress

When angry Ferrymen came to the Lavins demanding they do something before all of their livelyhoods were destroyed Marisa's fathers had no answer for the throngs of angry workers. Day after day they would rage and shout no work to be had for so many and with so much idle time could do naught but vent their frustrations. Marisa was 14 when one of her fathers was killed. Maybe it came from a disgruntled worker maybe the Black Hands had something to do with it no one is really sure. The fact remains the shot came from somewhere and she was without a father and then soon after her other father followed him by choice and Marisa was alone.

A spark of defiance

A 14 year old isn't really suited to become the head of an organization particularly one in such turmoil but that's what happened there wasn't any choice the writ of authority specified it had to be a Lavin, Marisa didn't have the funds to rejoin the The Silver Council so she lost that seat to the Black Hands even surmising that it was possible her father was killed for just that reason. However Marisa was not going to just go quietly and eek out the rest of her life. Instead she pulled back the amount of licences issued out there effectively laying off hundreds of workers though to everyone's surprise there were no riots or outrage. with the licences pulled back she refocused the buisness to pleasure cruises and other means of generating income for those still dependant on that way of living. Much of what the Ferrymen are now and that they still exist at all is thanks to her and her initial quick thinking though no one is sure how she avoided the angry mob that surely should have existed at the intial decision.

Rumors

A Deal

When something unexpected happens in Arbor especially something good many are want to consider how such a thing could occur. For Marisa to singlehandely save her fathers's company from total ruin is truly extrodinary and suspicions. Many believe she made some kind of deal to secure funding or power over the families that operated the gondolas. INvestigations into this area have turned up little and the only thing anyone can find is that before the change there were far more licences granted to the Ferrymen and after it was reducded to exactly 400 and 1. The 1 is interesting though as no information has ever been found about who owns this rogue licence and if it existed before the change.

Information Broker

The other business of the Ferrymen that perhaps is where far more of their money comes from. It is rumored that Marisa is the brain child of such a thing that secrets told near the water of Arbor have a way of making their way back to the Ferrymen and there isn't many places in Arbor that are far from water.

Relationships

None Marisa has had a few visitors and attempts at courting and were she still the heir to a family fortune with little care in the world some might have been successful but these days she is far too busy to be messing around with that.
