The Emperor/Empress

The Emperor/Empress are the high ruling monarchs in Arcaena, as well as the ruling pair in the tarot deck. They preside over their Castle, whether it be the Solis Castle in the east or the Luna Castle in the north. They also live in a physical castle. They can have children if they wish, with them granted the title of Prince/Princess and the first in line to the throne being the Crown Prince/Princess. They are the ruling monarch, having the power over the whole city. For example in the Solis Castle, there are the Emperor/Empress, with 2 sons and 1 daughter. The one in line to the throne is Crown Prince Elios, Eli for short. His other brother is named Julien and his sister, the youngest is called Zaria. They have the ministers and the other leader groups that lead the city of Solis, one such being the House of the church and religious proceedings, the House of Hierophants. The Hierophant is constantly in talks with the Emperor and Empress, with frequent cabinet meetings with the other Houses, such as the House of Magicians and the House of Chariots (who are known for their aggressiveness and assertive nature).

Qualifications

People in the Castles are born into royalty, there is no one who is elected toward the throne, it is all hereditary, unless you receive a knighthood - a knighthood is granted by the House of Chariots as they are the House that deals with the military and any tactical groups.

Responsibilities

The Emperor/Empress preside over everything in the city that they rule, but are more focused on the inner workings of their Castle, they have different ministers or nobleman looking after the workings of the cities. They basically are the central government to their city.

Notable Holders

The most famous Empress was the Empress Eliane. She was a widowed wife and left to rule without her husband. She introduced the different Houses and the categorical grouping scheme for the residents. The Crown Prince is named after her.

The title is still in effect, all the Castles of Arcaena have an Emperor and/or Empress.

Alternative Naming

The Emperor/Empress can also be called a King/Queen, but the more common usage is Emperor/Empress.

Length of Term

The length of their reign is basically until death, then the Crown Prince/Princess will take over.
