High Court

Structure

The core of the High Court is built up from a gray, boring and ancient array of Legeslators and lawmakers that sit around their high tables all day and write, sign and review different laws and historical cases. The Jury serves as their critiques. Acting both as the eyes which skim through that has been writ and vote wether they're accetable or not, accompanied with additional voices of the judges which serve to give them neutral voices of perspective and aid in cases. The Judges themselves are the highest of the high in mankinds machine for law and order, but also human society as a whole. It is their job to ensure nobody, no matter how powerfull and rich they are, can escape legal rights and persecution for breaking them.

Public Agenda

Though they stand for law, order and a grip of control. The empires and nations which have sworn or been forced to accept their agenda have seen nationwide improvements of security and success. The High Court stands against attrocity and that a person could be considered above the law. Ensuring that corrupt nobles, tyrannts and war criminals got nowhere to run and nowhere to hide from their thousands of eyes and ears.

Assets

The High Court indirectly owns all of Peregon, as the four standing kingdoms from the war of the Magi had agreed that a power balance to prevent another massive internal human conflict and it's following calamity from blossoming out. Thus the court have by alliances, as both Barrkad, the Golden Empire and Âzhgaard embraced them out of their own free will, the largest standing army and military assets.

History

The High Court is a known taboo to speak of within the shadier parts of high society. Once, the Knights of High Court were known as the boogeymen of the aristocracy. Once they had been the most powerfull knights to ever exist. One regiment alone of the order had the training, tactics and gear which allowed a hundered of their numbers to hold their ground against ten thousand. Combined with the wealth and political sway the High Court held over the world, none were safe from the forces they could employ to bring the most powerful people before their judgement.   The court had it's birth on the first day of the first year after the Peregonian unification, known as year 0. It's founded was meant to be a security ward to prevent the four kingdoms from waging another crusade against the other. By having their rulers at threat of being replaced and persecuted by breaking these laws, the court enforced both peace and prosperity for the isle of Peregon. The people having a safety net from abuse of their rulers, as well as the aristocracy being protected from schemes of the other was even at a time, a welcome change.   So welcome was it, that after the civil war within the Golden Dunes. Both the Golden Empire and Barrkad willingly swore allegiance to High Court and the Peregonian throne, as a means to press Westport into doing the same thing, lest they'd be surrounded by threats on all fronts.   During the colonization and conquests of the Blackwood, the High Court is believed to be at the peak of it's power. By having the Gothian people swear their Witch Hunters oaths to the Peregonian thrones, they now persecuted not only mortals but that of gods. Seeking out both dark deities and demons that meddled in mortal affairs to punish them underneath the steel boot of mankind.

Corruption

In the modern day, the High Court is a mere shadow of it's former splendor. They barely hold any grasp of power within Diestria, with exception for their Witchfinder allies. What influence they once held over Westport collapsed in corelation to the crippling debt which the citystate imposed on the Kingdom of Goldwick, known as the courts econoimical backbone. Caused by an aristocracy which mindlessly threw their coffers on products like silken toiletpaper and feeding their addiction for beauty and feline courtesans.   Without the funding to gear, train and feed the families of their knights, the agents of the court started to flake their duties and accept bribes as means to survive. Which opened pathways for opportunists aligned with the same nobles they once put in line, to abuse their high standing for personal gain. As it happened during a time of unrest from an exponentially growing conflict in Nightbridge, to avoid another Peregonic war desperate measures were taken.   Between a choice of their perception to a greater and lesser evil, the Court surrendered their might above all to the throne of Dawnshire to swear allies with religious institutions the world over. Which swore fealthy one way or another to the holy and divine. Thus allowing the mortal world to give birth to another era of fanatical worship and religious conflict, to use them as a shield against otherworldy invasions from far more sinister elements.
