harpy (Harpy)
The harpy is a large avian creature that at first glance appears to have the head and breast of a human woman.
Basic Information
Anatomy
The human head is actually a trick of the eye. What appears to be a nose is actually a ridge of feathers that protect the beak, similar to what you would see on a barn owl. The "breats" are are actually air sacks that can be inflated at will and are used in mating displays. The harpy branched of from other avians early on and has therefore retained some primitive traits such as claws on the hands and small teeth in the back of the mouth.
Genetics and Reproduction
he harpy is quite unique in that its Polyandryous meaning that the females can mate with more than one male. Male harpies are much smaller and do not posses the exagurated features of the females.
Ecology and Habitats
They are mosty found along mountainous coastlines but have in resent years dwindeled in numbers due to conflict with humanoids.
Dietary Needs and Habits
The harpy specialises in hunting large mamals such as sheep, goats and even horses and cattle. They are also known to feed on fish and humanoids.
