Nessbrim
Nessbrim is a large trading hub and the most culturally influential city of Anhangia. It is situated on the banks of Lake Centraun and was once considered the gateway into Kentro from both Horizon and Requiem, and while it still serves as the jumping off point for travelers heading farther into the province, they do not trade with the rest of Kentro; making it little more than a pit stop between trade routes.
Nessbrim was initially founded in 467 EP, though a crossroad settlement had existed for decades prior. As humanity began to again establish their burgeoning civilizations in Horizon, Requiem, and western Kentro, Nessbrim was an essential thoroughfare that connected them all. It also became a center of military strength as a central coordinating base for the region's main cities to better repel any future invasion attempts by the Haedian Empire to the east, who had made several attempts over the past decades.
The city's early history is mired in political maneuvering and outright warring between the many, many would-be lords that wished to grace the "best seat in the house" in regards to the region of Anhangia. This all came to a head when the region played host to the infamous Second Abyssal War, which was sparked by the elves attempting to solidify their claims to the west and retake what they'd lost in the north. Since then, the kingdoms of Anhangia have possessed a strong sense of comradery with Nessbrim at its center.
Anhangia's military might, led by Nessbrim, was instrumental in ending the Twilit War of 800 EP. Shortly after the major city-states of Kentro agreed to collectively rule the ancient city of Eodur, Nessbrim began to feel slighted by the arrangement. A major roadway already existed between Nessbrim and the rest of Kentro, and while the construction of the grand Unity Highway was an upgrade, it didn't really offer anything new. What's more, the other kingdoms came to expect far more of the region in terms of trade and military power, while Nessbrim felt they were receiving little in return. And so only after a few decades, Nessbrim withdrew from the council and cut off most communication and trade with the larger province. In addition, they continued to amass military prowess, which has made the other kingdoms nervous about their ultimate intentions. This is compounded by the fact that despite Nessbrim leaving the main roads open for trade between the other provinces, that is something they could shut down at any given moment.
