River Run
The "northernmost" city of Horizon, it sits on the far banks of the Arrdan River.
River Run was officially founded in 559 EP, though settlements had been there for several decades before. In 519, Jude Camman, a ranger who achieved folk hero status when he lead a small group of men to repel a veritable invasion of behemoths from the Ardlands, was granted land by the Earl of the small city of Beul (which has since faded into obscurity) for saving it from the aforementioned beasts.
Camman had the year prior founded the Lodge of Marksman as a safeguard against the beasts of the Ardlands that all too often press upon the fringes of civilization, specifically because of the horde of dinosaurs that had inadvertently put Beul in their sights. With the land given to him and his companions, he built a lodge to act as a base of operations as well as a small farmstead. With time, the area grew; it was located on a good route, and many people travelling between Crucible and Nordstar would stop there. It's positioning on the river also made it a good launching point to get to other settlements along the Arrdan. Camman eventually built a tavern called the Huntsman's Rest, which he ran comfortably for the rest of his life after he retired from adventuring.
Finally, in 559, the town reorganized into a proper city-state, naming a woman called Elaine Ruthaar as the city's first Earless. At the same time, Alluvium Hold was christened.
The Lodge of Marksmen The guild of rangers continued to grow over the years in tandem with the city. The bigger the city became, so did the need for brave men and women to defend it from the monsters that lurked in the badlands just to the north. The guild quickly outgrew the lodge built by Camman. For a time, they headquartered in Alluvium Hold, but it quickly became clear that they would be better served with more immediate access to the Ardlands that they patrol. And so the Lodge was given control of Rathadspur Castle, the keep that sits at the beginning of the raised highway that spans the Ardlands to Nordstar, and while the highway fell to ruin with the passing of time, the Lodge remained in the castle.
St. Mandrake's Cathedral The premiere cathedral of River Run was constructed in 611 EP and named for an enigmatic priest of Fos and Dorcha who, in 567, had pledged to make her way from the mouth of the Arrdan to its source and spread the enlightenment of the Attuned, specifically to the elves of Aeturnum. Whether she ever reached to elves is a mystery to this day; her body was never found. Some believe that she successfully inundated with the elves and spent the rest of her days living in Aeturnum as a triumphant preacher, well loved amongst the elves. Others believe the more likely theory: she died trying to cross the Aeturnum border like every other human who has tried to enter unannounced.
