The 2nd Haedian Empire

The 2nd Haedian Empire was christened in 1218 EP when, during the events of the Long Shadow in Requiem, King Aurum of Sigil launched a surprise attack on Penance and Cognance while the latter two were engaged in a war of their own.
Aurum's plan went back several years when he first learned of Cataclysm and his machinations. Seeing the constant squabbling of the great city-states of Requiem, Aurum set out to unite them once again under a common banner.
And so, under a veneer of neutrality, Sigil began a destabilization campaign to escalate the conflict between Cognance and Penance in the short term. This included spreading falsified information leaks to each side as well as funding insurgent groups, including the Reckoning, to hamper both sides.
Sigil also would require access to the sea in order to effectively deal with both Penance and Cognance simultaneously. To do this, Crown Mages staged a "terrorist" attack within the city and blamed brigands from the isolated city of Far Reach on the eastern coast of Requiem and invaded them in "reprisal." From there, the crown dedicated large sums to have a fleet built and readied in their newly occupied vassal city.
When the time was right, Sigil "informed" both sides that the other was planning to attack Borne, a neutral city with strong religious significance to both parties. Each city deployed large armies to defend Borne, and once they were away, Sigil struck. Cognance was invaded by sea with the secret navy built in Far Reach and Penance was invaded by Sigil's army. Both cities were caught entirely unawares and surrendered swiftly and with minimal bloodshed.
Penance was put under martial law for a time, but Cognance's allegiance was secured by way of the marriage between its Queen Domantus and King Aurum; uniting the two kingdoms in matrimony.
With the three cities united for the first time in centuries, Aurum declared a revival of the Haedian Empire that had originally dissolved hundreds of years prior. However, much like its predecessor, The 2nd Haedian Empire never expanded beyond the province of Requiem. Internal strife derived from the fallout of the Collision forced Haedia's occupying force to withdraw from Anhangia. When the dust settled, it was clear to Aurum that any further expansion would come at the cost of fracturing his new empire yet again.
As of 1590, Haedia remains united and is one of the most prominent nations of Archaios and are one of three major kingdoms that have established colonies in the New World. The current empress is a discerning woman called Hera Fortis, who continues Aurum's dynasty.
