The safe zones needed a more permanent way to defend themselves. Sure, the Archangels Drop Sock Troopers protected them well enough to prevent civilian casualties, but their own losses were too great to stay a permanent solution. One thought was to fight fire, with fire.

With the alien threat tearing at the walls of the safe zones, a better method of defense is required to survive. The first thought was to fight fire with fire. To destroy machines, one must become machine. Several inventers tried to find a method of mechanized combat. Nathan Armories was not part of the group trying to invent this solution as at this point, they were simply a gun manufacturer. They had not yet thought to build massive machines of war yet.   Some early prototypes, made by Holland and Anderson Mechanization, were basically quadrupedal tanks. While this design choice didn't stay, it was proof of concept. The next thought was a smaller bipedal machine with no arms, and inverted legs. These ones used a neural link between man, and machine. The lack of arms meant a lack of effectiveness should the aliens get too close.   One final thought was to use a more humanoid form in these machines. Two arms, and two legs. Weapons were mounted everywhere they would fit. Some placed weapons in place of hands. Johnson Mechanized Warfare was the first to officially make machines of this nature. These machines were a success. They were called Titans by the civilians who first saw them. Instead of making an entirely new military unit to pilot these machines, they gave the machines to the Archangels Drop Shock Troopers. The unit was soon renamed the Archangels Mechanized Infantry Corps.   The titans, and the titanmasters within would now protect the safe zones better than ever. However, the alien threat is still at the door.
