Krusk

Krusk is a male Tortle cleric from Atiu Beach, in the western Drake Islands.

Early Life

Krusk and his brother, Kest, are the only hatchlings to emerge from the sandy beaches of their ancestral island in the past 57 years. Their parents told them that they would probably be the last to ever hatch there. Over the past 50 years, more and more Tortles on their island had contracted Soft Scale disease...making the afflicted Tortle’s scales soft and waxy, but more disastrously, causing their eggs laid to be fragile and easily broken. Some mothers even laid incomplete eggs: their hopes for children swept away by a mysterious illness.
Krusk’s parents, Krup and Anoc, taught him and his brother everything they knew about Soft Scale, what treatments seemed to help and of other islands where Tortles lived. They hoped that a cure could be found, and that their island would one day be the home to happy nestlings and their parents, sharing their wisdom accumulated over decades.
Krusk and Kest set out, deciding that they would scour the world, looking for rare medicines and herbs and to find news of other Tortles that had encountered the disease. Every year, for the past 7 years, the brothers met in Tannis, by the temple of Luminara, on the day of the summer solstice. The temple of light filled them with hope and they would stay awake, into the moonlit hours comparing notes, exchanging news, and fraternal affection.

Present

A year ago, Kest never showed up. Krusk has stayed near the temple of Luminara (deity) ever since, hoping that Kest would appear over the horizon. In his time there, he has learned much of there sacred rites and now follows the holy way lit by Luminara’s flame. Now that for a 2nd year the solstice has passed, Krusk is certain; his brother has abandoned him, or is dead. Resolved to carry the torch of his family, and his dear brother, Krusk prepares to go out into the world, seek out other Tortles and find a cure for the disease which has taken everything from him.

Education

Krusk was taught much about medicine, lore, history, and geography by his parents. He has moderate experience dealing with Soft Scale disease. Since 1849 he has stayed, studied, and prayed with the Priests of Luminara in Tannis.

Krusk, like most Tortles, has a strong sense of right and wrong.  He does what he thinks is just, unless disregarding local laws and customs would cause harm to others outweighing the benefits. Neutral good.
