This hourglass has a simple latch attached to it that can grasp thin items such as rope. If the sand runs out while the latch is closed, it automatically opens, releasing whatever it is grasping. The timer can be adjusted precisely to any duration between 1 minute and an hour. The hourglass can be rigged to begin ticking when it receives a trigger, such as pulled rope or a pressure plate.
