Sshuka's notes on emotions

Text

Research is going well. I have explored numerous vastly different emotions, several which caused a notable impact to the effected being. My most recent discovery is that they are often contagious: a sorrowful being tends to spread sorrow, a joyful being shares joy, and so on. I will watch my little subjects on their travels, and see how they spread their poisoned moods to others.
Some emotions are straightforward. Anger leads to aggression- I’m not sure the difference between them, frankly- and many, like sorrow or contentment, lead to complacency. These behavioral emotions are the most useful. I have reported this to General Kassahar.
Happiness is perhaps the most interesting. I value success, of course, but the unscaled get a special kind of pleasure out of things that go well for them. They chase it like prey, savor it like good meat, and even share it like a feast. When I imagine relishing in my victories, I imagine a parade demonstrating my gifts so that others will fear me, or a statue to solidify my superiority. I do not feel ‘happy’, I merely feel successful, then look forward to furthering my power. Perhaps happiness is the greatest failing of the unscaled; they do not have our drive or pragmatism. A happy person wants to remain happy, and so they are disincentivized from changing the world around them.
