The Spiritroots

The east section of Subterranea mostly consists of a lush, verdant region beneath the Spiritwood. The Spiritroots, as this area is called, is a dark underground forest formed of zurkhwoods and the roots of the Spiritwood's trees. Where most of Subterranea is bleak, stony, dry, and empty, the Spiritroots are active, bountiful, moist, and brimming with wildlife. Fungi, moss, fruit, and animals well-suited to darkness are ubiquitous.
The east entrance of Subterranea is located at the southern edge of the Spiritroots, and connects to the Spiritwood on the surface. The deep gnome city of Smurkleton is located near the entrance. Shadaria, the realm of the shadar-kai, is located deep in the Spiritroots.
