Vak's Journal - Candessa's Shrine

Text

I loathe this sweltering oven. If I hadn’t heard tales of another barcode ruin, there’s not a snowball’s chance in the Inferno that I would have come here. Magma is dangerous, unpredictable, toxic… what if the ceiling collapses and molten earth pours down on my head? Retreating to the underground world has already been a difficult adjustment for all of us. I never thought I’d be so close to the deadly river of fire that shakes me to my core.
On the bright side, I suspect there are more revelations concealed here: this ruin bears a strong resemblance to the ones we found on the surface, including the inscription in the ancient barcode language. I haven’t yet been successful in guessisng the password for the chest here. I have, however, observed that the layout of these “hovels” are not so homely. I am revising my earlier conclusions; I now believe these buildings are a shrine of some kind. What did the ancient ones worship? Did they believe in gods?
The questions raised here have ultimately lifted my mood. There is plenty to discover in the underworld, and that should distract me from how much I miss the sun. Perhaps some day soon I will gain the courage to enter the Labyrinth. Or more likely, some day soon I may be forced to.
